Opportunity:
Are you an Ecologist living in or near Manchester with a keen understanding and strong grasp of the technical aspects of Ecology? Does the idea of mentoring and growing a team of budding ecologists line up with your career goals? If so, you could be the person our client is searching for. As the new Technical Associate or Technical Director of Ecology, you’ll have the opportunity to work on exciting and engaging projects across the UK, handling each stage of the process, from conception and bid proposals to client liaising and document preparation. Working for our client means you’ll be part of a nationally recognised multidisciplinary firm which has a heavy focus on the health and well-being of its employees. Work/life balance is high on their priority list, adopting a permanent 4-day work week, allowing you to spend more time with friends and family or on yourself, allowing you to develop new skills/hobbies or enjoy some much-needed R&R. However you choose to spend your time, you’ll be spending 4 days a week pushing and contributing to a nature-positive approach to major projects across the UK.
Responsibilities:
As the new Technical Associate or Technical Director for the Ecology division, your responsibilities will encompass two main areas: Staff Training & Development and Technical expertise. The first area will involve you acting as a guide and mentor to the younger members of the Ecology team, providing technical knowledge and expertise when required and assisting with winning new business for the company. The second aspect of the job will be focused on utilising your technical knowledge to manage multiple complex projects as they are assigned to you. You’ll be a main point of contact, liaising directly with LPS, key stakeholders, clients, and statutory bodies. Alongside this, you’ll be handling the documentation required as part of each project, including BNG assessments, EcIAs, relevant EIA sections, method statements, mitigation strategies, and management plans.
Requirements:
1. 8 years of experience working as an Ecologist.
2. A full CIEEM member/chartered ecologist or working towards chartered status.
3. Very strong understanding of and experience with EIAs, EcIAs, HRAs, protected species licensing and possession of at least one protected species license.
4. Working knowledge of planning policy and legislation.
5. Comfortable with taking on a team leader role.
6. Holding a full UK drivers license and be within travelling distance of the Manchester office.
7. Possess strong surveying skills such as UKHabs, botanical surveys or protected species surveys.
