We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team.
In this post, you will be expected to contribute to the acute and general out-patient neurology service at the RVI, including a share of the out of hours service, and to support the specialist epilepsy service. There is also a commitment to a local DGH, covering general neurology, epilepsy, and inpatient liaison one day a week.
This post is a substantive permanent post based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in the regional neurosciences centre. You will provide a general neurology service, comprising acute and elective outpatient and inpatient work, including a share of the out of hours on-call, and will take part in the provision of a specialist service in epilepsy.
Our staff oversee around 6,500 patient contacts every day, delivering high standards of healthcare from the following sites:
1. Freeman Hospital
2. Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)
3. Health Innovation Neighbourhood
4. Newcastle Dental Hospital
5. Newcastle Fertility Centre
6. Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria
7. Northern Genetics Service
8. Cramlington Manor Walks
These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting-edge care (supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology) and are a catalyst for innovation to support pioneering clinical practice in the NHS.
Within the epilepsy service, we provide first seizure, epilepsy surgery, adolescent transition, neuro-obstetrics, and learning disability/epilepsy clinics in addition to the general/complex epilepsy clinics. Weekly MDTs are held with the neurophysiology department to review EEGs, and there is a twice-monthly epilepsy surgery meeting. We are planning to expand our provision of video-telemetry. We plan to use this appointment to extend our contribution to the neuro-oncology team in the trust, which has the prestigious Tessa Jowell accreditation as a Centre of Excellence from 2021.
The appointee will be expected to participate in the weekly academic meetings and will have the chance to contribute to the departmental teaching programme for undergraduate medical students from Newcastle University and to contribute to the postgraduate training.
The appointee will be expected to undertake administrative duties in relation to the care of his/her patients and in relation to the running of the Department of Neurology in cooperation with the Head of Department, Departmental Manager, and Clinical Director.
