POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for planning and leading curriculum-based activities with a group of children in a specialty area. Maintains and organizes all equipment/materials for the designated activities to achieve optimum use of resources. Supervises both campers and staff to ensure a high level of program quality, engagement, and an excellent camper experience. Demonstrates the Y's commitment to its core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring in all actions to serve as a role model.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Lead in the development of age-appropriate activity plans according to the camp curriculum in specialty areas including creating a mode/sample or instruction.
* Actively engage all campers and staff in activities, including being in the pool during designated swim times, planning alternative activities or follow-up activities as needed.
* Support routine tasks of face counts, medications, behaviors, etc.
* Maintain resources and materials to ensure a clean, safe environment.
* Keep materials organized and in good repair throughout the summer.
* Communicate supply and ordering needs in a timely manner to the Camp Director.
* Assist in special program areas and activities including but not limited to: waterfront, pool, nature, camp-wide activities, arts and crafts, ropes, marksmanship, homestead, and horses as directed (as applicable by camp).
* Engage and support counselors and junior counselors, and share necessary information from camp leadership.
* Report to work on time and in uniform for all scheduled shifts, including weekly and/or other designated meetings.
* Promote positive character values in a caring camp environment.
* Attend all training and meetings within the designated time frame.
* Drive Y minibus for teen camp field trip purposes as applicable/needed.
* All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
* 21+ years of age or older.
* Must have documented experience, knowledge, and skills in teaching and supervision specific to the activity conducted.
* A highly energetic team player.
* Able and willing to fully participate in all aspects of the camp day and activities.
* Able to learn and follow all policies and procedures in order to provide a safe program.
* Strong communication skills.
* At least one camp season working with youth or related experience.
* Be eligible to complete the Y in Central Maryland drivers training to operate the minibus.
Certifications:
* Attend all training and meetings within the designated time frame.
