Job Summary:
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork, and leadership/professionalism. The nurse also directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
A Registered Nurse II (RN II) is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned. An RN II is required to complete yearly mandatory competencies and any unit-specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee as it relates to the patient population of their unit, as well as completion of the Professional Practice Ladder requirements. This includes assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, participating in department initiatives, communicating and sharing information with the Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committee, attending a Valley Health paid Education/Seminar/Conference workshop, or reviewing a Nursing Article. The portfolio must be current and submitted to the Director/Designee annually by March 1st. The RN routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review for the unit, and develops a bulletin board or poster that provides educational information to staff, patients, and family members.

Educational, certification and/or licensure requirements:
Associates in Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or AND) required. Bachelors in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Certification & Licensures: RN license or eligible for licensure in Virginia.
