Job Description
Electrical Installations and Commissioning Engineer - Submarines
Full Time
Barrow-in-Furness
Why Rolls-Royce?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Installation and Commissioning Engineer to join the On-Site Team at Rolls-Royce Submarines based in Barrow-in-Furness. We’re a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority.
Join us and we’ll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.
This is a fantastic opportunity to witness and be part of the UK submarine build and commissioning programmes within the BAE Shipyard. We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits including bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.
Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. As a minimum, we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.
What you will be doing:
* Testing and commissioning of the newest electrical NSRP components from the initial delivery to the final testing of the platform.
* Producing, reviewing, and authorising First of Class procedures for build and commissioning.
* Providing support to the site team and shipbuilder for all build and commissioning issues, including review of defects and problems.
* Approving concessions raised by the shipbuilder during the build and commissioning programme.
* Operating within a cross engineering discipline team with multiple industrial partner organisations.
* Participating in a Site Engineer Training Plan to drive the technical development required to represent Rolls-Royce within on-site Approval Groups.
* May include periodic attendance at other site locations within the UK and abroad.
Who we are looking for:
* Preferably educated to degree level, studying for a degree or equivalent with practical experience in an electrical engineering discipline.
* Proactively drive for results, demonstrate creativity in problem solving, and have strong planning and organisational skills.
* Ideally have a detailed knowledge of the Rolls-Royce NSRP design, but not essential.
* Ability to represent Rolls-Royce independently and be comfortable within a shipyard environment.
* Robust tolerance to different organisational behaviours and ability to collaborate with and influence key stakeholders.
* Autonomous with the ability to progress workload independently.
* Strong capability to manage a changing environment.
* Positive team player focused on working collaboratively.
* Ability to work with some ambiguity and understand the ‘end goal’.
We’re an equal opportunities employer committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives, and the more perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be.
To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently have this in place.
Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
