MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST Work under indirect supervision in accordance with defined practice protocols Provide a phlebotomy service to patients registered at the practice Be competent in the assessment of patients both physically and emotionally, to ensure safety prior to blood samples being taken Be competent in the selection of the appropriate sample bottle or all common laboratory investigations Be competent in the use of computer software packages associated with ordering blood samples from different sources Ensure samples are correctly labelled for transportation to the laboratory Carry out routine and specific procedures required for the day-to-day running of the practice Wound care to include recognising wound infection and escalating to appropriate clinician as required. Baseline measurements. Nhs health checks if experienced Immunisations after training Maintaining record of refrigerator temperatures and cleaning as appropriate. Act as patient chaperone as required. In-house testing of urine samples. Ensure specimens are correctly labelled, bagged ready for collection and documented on EMIS Performing ECGs Escalating any problems to the nurse team leader or practice manager. OTHER DUTIES To be aware of current evidence based approaches to patient care and demonstrates this through continuous improvement of patient care The post holder will be expected to maintain strict confidentiality at all times and be aware of Caldicott principles. The post holder will be expected to remain abreast of current evidence based practice and make use of the learning opportunities offered.
