The national starting salary range is £34,140. The London starting salary is £38,661. Your salary will be dependent on your base location
BACKGROUND
The Northern Ireland Office supports the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in promoting the best interests of Northern Ireland. We make sure that Northern Ireland interests are represented within the UK Government and that UK government responsibilities are fully and effectively represented in Northern Ireland. We are the centre of expertise on Northern Ireland issues across Government.
The Northern Ireland Office employs around 165 staff, with offices in Belfast and London. As a small Department, we adopt a flexible project-based approach to ensure that we have the right people, with the right skills, in the right place to support the delivery of our key objectives.
Due to our structure and size, we are able to offer extensive exposure to Ministers and the opportunity to work on a far wider portfolio of policy and responsibilities than might be the case in a larger department. This creates an interesting and stimulating work environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
The NIO's records cover a period of immense importance in the political life of the United Kingdom. From the imposition of direct rule in 1972, through to the signing of the Belfast / Good Friday Agreement in 1998 and beyond, all the key issues affecting the people of Northern Ireland are displayed in fascinating detail.
It is possible only to highlight a few of these events here; the ending of the power sharing agreement in 1977; the hunger strikes of the early 1980's; the signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement in 1985: the start of intensive political negotiations in the early 1990's; the IRA and Loyalist ceasefires in 1994; the ending of the ceasefire in 1996 by the Canary Wharf bomb; and the election of a Labour Government in 1997 leading to the Good Friday Agreement. All this has meant that Northern Ireland and the NIO have never been out of the public eye and much in the minds of successive Prime Ministers. And this does not seem likely to change any time soon.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the Digital Team within the Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) team at the Northern Ireland Office (NIO). This role is central to the Department’s commitment to innovation, openness, transparency and compliance with Public Records legislation. The KIM team is responsible for all aspects of managing the department’s record keeping systems whilst aligning with the Public Records Act.
As a Digital Support Executive you will be responsible for a wide range of activities which underpin the successful delivery of services within the department ensuring everything is completed in line with the overall business strategy. We are looking for someone who is comfortable handling data, with skills, that can support our teams in making effective business decisions to achieve the best results for our internal users.
We are a modern organisation that depends on our digital services to operate and innovate effectively. In order to provide up to date services within the department systems need to be developed, improved and maintained. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring the core applications are reviewed regularly and continually improved.
You will need the appetite to learn new technologies and methodologies for delivering high quality digital services. You will be expected to be proactive and take accountability for assigned tasks. The role will also require the investigation and diagnosis of any system issues. As a multi-skilled individual, you will have the opportunities to develop skills in a core role with the ability to extend these aligned to other role types. You will have a high level of input in defining which additional skills you can develop. Our portfolio includes IT products including Google Workspace and Open Text’s Content Manager. The department is also exploring the application of Google’s Artificial Intelligence offering.
