Job Title: Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship
Training Course: Engineering Fitter (level 3)
Working Hours: Mon-Thurs 07:30 to 16:00/Fri 07:30 to 12:50 2 x 15 minute breaks each day 20 minutes lunch break (38 hours)
Start Date: Monday 1st September 2025
Role Overview: Apprentice Production Operative based at Backer Heatrod in Farnworth. The main requirements of the role are the efficient production of elements using hand tools, task specific machinery, and manual assembly. Quality checks of manufactured products and involvement in achieving internal KPI’s are also required, along with participation in continuous improvement activities.
Work:
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work:
* Manufacture of elements
* Bending, coil assembly, filling, testing, and packing
* Heater manufacture
* Attending daily huddles
* Involvement in continuous improvement activities
* Attending personal mentoring sessions
Training:
Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
College or Training Organisation:
* The training will take place on a day release basis at Wigan & Leigh College
* The apprentice will be working 4 days a week in the job and then attend college one day per week
Minimum Qualifications:
* GCSE in Maths (grade 5)

Other Requirements:
No requirement to work away overnight. Work is based at the site in Farnworth; living within a reasonable commute is desirable.
After this Apprenticeship:
Following successful completion of the Level 3 apprenticeship, there are opportunities to progress to technician level within production and possibly to Engineer depending on the preferred development of the individual.
