You will lead construction teams in the partnership that deliver traditional Capital Maintenance Programmes along with Highway Flooding and Major Carriageway Reconstruction. You will also lead teams acting as an in-house delivery contractor for other service areas covering areas of Local Highways Panels, Sustainable Transport and S106 works. In addition to this, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing the delivery for the 3rd party works service for Essex Highways e.g. developer funded schemes.
The Role
1. Leading teams that oversee delivery and construction ensuring health and safety standards are at an industry-leading standard and that quality is at the forefront of every scheme delivered.
2. As named Principal Contractor on the Contract, you will ensure that all schemes are implemented in accordance with CDM 2015, and all technical and legal processes are followed.
3. Using professional expertise to develop and translate functional strategies, goals and plans into their area of work that prioritises resources, complies with relevant legislation and statutory requirements and manages a level of appropriate risk.
4. Taking a lead role in the development of the 3rd party business for Essex Highways by identifying appropriate developer opportunities, procuring services and managing the successful delivery.
5. Support on the Professional Development of staff liaising with educational providers to ensure that teaching programmes reflect the needs of the business and providing career structures to ensure that talent is retained within the business.
Minimum Requirements
1. Significant and demonstrable management experience within a highways environment with a track record of successful delivery of schemes, projects, and services.
2. Significant and demonstrable experience delivering projects/programmes in the private sector and operating within a profit and loss environment.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation with specific emphasis on CDM.
4. Ideally educated to degree level and/or member of a relevant professional institution is desirable.
5. Excellent demonstrable leadership skills with the ability to direct and create highly performing and motivated teams.
6. Commercial awareness and capacity to generate creative options around income generation, grant funding and making best use of our assets.
