The North Tyneside Mental Health Services for Older People is based within North Tyneside General Hospital and provides psychiatric services for older people within much of North Tyneside. The North Tyneside Memory Clinic offers clinic and home visit appointments, receiving approximately 800 referrals a year and providing assessment, diagnostic, and post-diagnostic support for those with possible dementia. The post holder would be primarily based in the Memory Service, supporting the diagnosis and treatment of patients with dementia.
The post holder would work with other members of the MDT within the Memory Service, including nursing staff, occupational therapists, psychology, and nursing assistants, supported by an excellent admin team. There is consultant input into the Memory Clinic, and we have a full-time F1 doctor and GP registrar (split post Memory Clinic and Community Team). The team has a close working relationship and values all members of the MDT. The exact job plan will be agreed with the successful appointee.
Responsibilities:
1. Support provision of Memory Clinic services, including input into MDT.
2. Provide Memory Clinic diagnostic clinics.
3. Provide input into reviewing investigations within Memory Clinic.
4. Provide recommendations for treatments for cognitive impairment and associated mental health issues.
5. Support the training and support of junior medical staff, nurses, and other multidisciplinary team members within the Trust’s Older People’s Services.
6. The post will be supported by consultant input.
7. Although primarily based within the Memory Service, there may be occasions when input into other parts of the Mental Health Services for Older People is required, dependent on service need.
