About the Opportunity
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced consultant to join our friendly, collaborative and multi-disciplinary business. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, with a passion for solving complex and novel challenges through structured thought processes and engagement with a wide range of stakeholders.
As a Strategic Nuclear Consultant, you will be integral to delivering high quality technical input, leading projects, developing business opportunities, and forging strong relationships within the UK nuclear industry and beyond. You will be expected to play a key role in the continuing growth of our business.
This role requires an in-depth understanding of the needs of a consultancy business, with a proven track record in opportunity capture, project execution and client engagement. You will work on a variety of projects that demand innovative thinking and a collaborative approach, helping clients navigate complex regulatory environments and achieve sustainable solutions.
We are operating under flexible working arrangements, with a mixture of office-based and home working environments. The role can be based at Harwell, Cumbria, Scrabster or Birchwood and other locations will be considered.
We have a leading role in decommissioning, waste strategy and disposal, underpinning the future management of radioactive waste, spent nuclear fuels and nuclear materials in safe, sustainable and environmentally appropriate ways. In the UK, we deliver a diverse range of projects for waste producers, waste management organisations and strategic authorities across all aspects of the waste lifecycle. We are delivering similarly interesting and exciting projects across the globe including projects for clients in Norway, Central & Eastern Europe and Japan.
Key responsibilities:
* Provide expert technical direction on strategic nuclear decommissioning and waste management projects.
* Support the development of waste management strategies and plans. Navigating regulatory compliance and environmental safety requirements.
* Oversee teams to produce high-quality technical reports and industry guidance documents.
* Develop business opportunities and maintain industry relationships.
* Tackle new challenges through logical thought processes and strategic thinking. Linking together ideas and people from diverse backgrounds to achieve objectives.
* Facilitate a range of technical and non-technical meetings, such as options assessments and multi-client project evaluation meetings.
* Degree qualification (or equivalent training and experience) in appropriate environmental, physical science or engineering discipline.
* Significant experience in a comparable role (preferably nuclear decommissioning and waste management consultancy).
* Good working knowledge of relevant frameworks for management of waste (techniques and technologies, regulatory environment, organisational set up, relevant national policies and international agreements).
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Including experience facilitating a range of technical and non-technical meetings.
* Demonstrated ability in technical project leadership and business development.
* Ability to manage time and priorities while working on several varied projects.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including tailoring outputs to the requirements of different stakeholders.
Additionally, the following desirable qualities would be advantageous:
* Holds or is actively pursuing relevant Chartership.
* Recognised technical leadership within the industry
* Willingness to travel on business on occasion. This may include sites across the UK and overseas (e.g. Europe, USA, Japan, Australia and Middle East).
