If so, we'd love to hear from you About the Team The Securities and Markets team (SAM) develops policy on matters relating to the regulation and good functioning of the UK’s financial markets. The range of our work is wide, from formulating the laws and regulations which govern the behaviour of investment bankers and traders, to creating favourable conditions for innovative companies to raise capital and succeed in the UK. One of our most immediate objectives is to implement reforms to our financial services regulations to support the government’s growth mission. This involves us doing policy work to identify and prepare improvements to the rules that the UK has inherited from the EU, as well as working with teams across HMT, government and the regulators to identify and deliver ambitious new policy proposals that will help foster growth and innovation. About the Roles We are advertising for two Range Es/Grade 7s to head clearing and derivatives policy in the Financial Market Infrastructure (FMI) branch, and to head secondary markets policy in the Capital Markets branch. In the role, you will: Lead on specific government policy related to financial markets, either on clearing houses or wholesale financial markets; building an in-depth expertise of these areas. Oversee the delivery and implementation of this policy, including through secondary legislation – working collaboratively with Treasury lawyers. Prepare advice for and working with Ministers and seniors on decisions, risks or issues pertaining to your policy. Provide strategic direction and line management About You The successful candidate will have the ability to see the wider picture, identifying political as well as technical angles to a policy challenge. You will be able to analyse a range of complex information and evaluate evidence to make decisions. You’ll have experience of drafting and developing ministerial briefs or consultation documents, distilling technical language into clear and simple prose. Lastly you will have the ability to inspiring and motivate others to deliver and succeed, while promoting team resilience, wellbeing and inclusion.
