Job Title: Data Centre Engineer

Salary: £45,750.00 per annum (based on the midpoint of the salary range)
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Data Centre Engineer to join our team in Hertfordshire.
Responsibilities
1. Work on a 24x7x365 shift pattern, including day and night rotations, to ensure the smooth operation of our Data Centre services.
2. Manage change control processes, ensuring that all changes are thoroughly assessed and implemented with minimal disruption.
3. Resolve incidents and manage assets effectively, using your problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
4. Supervise and escort third-party vendors, ensuring that they have the necessary access and information to complete their work.
5. Plan and implement IT hardware installations, adhering to strict Data Centre standards and ensuring that all work is completed to the highest quality.
6. Manage the decommissioning of network hardware and structured cabling, following established procedures to ensure that all equipment is properly disposed of.
7. Update relevant documentation and inventories, maintaining accurate records of all equipment and systems within the Data Centre.
8. Complete service requests within agreed SLAs, providing timely and effective support to our internal stakeholders.
9. Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures and quality standards, maintaining a safe working environment for yourself and others.
10. Follow approved processes and security protocols for Data Centre operations, protecting sensitive data and maintaining the integrity of our systems.
Key Tasks
1. Maintain Data Centre toolsets for support and management, ensuring that all systems are up-to-date and functioning correctly.
2. Oversee Data Centre governance and collaborate with facilities providers to enhance energy efficiency, reducing our environmental impact and improving our operational costs.
3. Ensure the successful day-to-day running of the Data Centre, including installations, changes, and maintenance, through proactive planning and effective project management.
4. Work on Data Centre-related service improvement and infrastructure projects, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance our services and reduce downtime.
5. Perform basic server configuration tasks, such as IDRAC and ILO setup and management.
6. Conduct fault finding, escalation, racking, stacking, moves, changes, decommissioning, and patching, using your technical expertise to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
7. Manage complex inter-rack and inter-room cable infrastructures to ensure IT stability, maintaining accurate records of all cables and systems within the Data Centre.
Requirements
1. Proven experience working in high-risk environments and Data Centres, with a strong understanding of the challenges and complexities associated with these environments.
2. Knowledge of DCIM tools and standards (desirable), demonstrating an understanding of industry best practices and emerging trends.
3. Familiarity with ServiceNow, Remedy, or similar ticketing systems (desirable), showing an ability to adapt to new technologies and workflows.
4. Excellent attention to detail and a proactive mindset, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality results and meeting deadlines.
5. Strong knowledge of infrastructure technologies and networking concepts, with a solid understanding of system architecture and design principles.
6. Proficiency in MS Office and helpdesk/service delivery applications, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
7. Reliability, teamwork, and the ability to work under pressure, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and customer satisfaction.
8. Initiative and independence in completing tasks, with a self-motivated approach to learning and professional development.
9. Flexibility with shift patterns, with a willingness to work outside normal hours when required.
10. Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, across all levels, with a strong focus on building relationships and driving results.
