JOB DESCRIPTION Posts Lecturer in Foundation Skills Academy and Essential Skills Numeracy Ref S02/25 Salary (£) £30,000 - £39,495 per annum (plus £3,067 Threshold and £1,596 Deane Payment if applicable) Directorate Curriculum and Information Services Unit School of Business, Health and Hospitality Reports to Head of School Business, Health and Hospitality Location Campus to be confirmed but will be required to be available for work at any of the College sites as required. Total hours of work 1 FTE.The annual hours are 1,440 of which up to 828 for student contact time and the remainder for associated duties. However, the post holder will be required to adopt a flexible approach (including evening work) and to devote such time as may be required by the exigencies of the service. JOB PURPOSE To become a member of the teaching team in current courses of study and assist with future developments. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Plan, deliver and assess a range of programmes across Foundation Skills Academy and Essential Skills Numeracy. 2 Develop the provision of Essential Skills Numeracy throughout the School to suit the circular needs of the workforce 3 Fulfil the role of class tutor with administrative and pastoral responsibilities. 4 Develop ILT resources appropriate for teaching and learning in the subject area and promote the use of library and resource centres. 5 Review and evaluate quality of provision in line with IQ: RS and awarding body requirements. 6 Participate in staff training and development activities to update and enhance own knowledge, skills and professional competence needed to carry out the role effectively. 7 Contribute to and participate in marketing, recruitment, induction and other appropriate events. 8 Co-ordinate programmes of study. 9 Participate in subject and school team meetings. 10 Contribute to the co-ordination and organisation of educational visits and work-based learning. 11 Organise, participate in and supervise students during residential events. 12 Contribute to the development of new full-time and part-time related courses throughout the School to meet the needs of the workforce and other relevant stakeholders. 13 Complete as required all administrative tasks associated with the post. 14 Participate in achieving outcomes required by the Training Organisation to achieve funding. 15 Liaise with employers, Sector Skills Council and Awarding Bodies 16 To mentor students for competitions. 17 Attend and/or chair appropriate meetings. 18 Undertake necessary associated administration duties. Selection Criteria Lecturer in Foundation Skills Academyand Essential Skills Numeracy Essential Criteria Hold GCSE English (Grade A-C) / Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in Communication; and GCSE Maths (Grade A-C) / Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in Numeracy, or NICATS Access Maths Modules; Hold a University Degree in an appropriate area OR Hold a qualification in in an appropriate area which is at least Level 5 on the National Qualification Framework (NQF revised September 2004) or on the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF)and have 3 years relevant industrial, professional or business experience. 3. Have the relevant qualifications and meet the requirements of the following circular: Qualifications required to Deliver Essential Skills in Northern Ireland Circular ES01/12 4. A minimum of one years experience of teaching students with emotional, behavioural, and learning difficulties. 5. A minimum of one years experience in the delivery of Essential Skills Numeracy or GCSE Maths. 6. Demonstrate a high level of competency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite 7. Demonstrate a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team 8. Demonstrate the ability to prioritise and organise given tasks and objectives. 9. Have excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral. Desirable Criteria: Hold a recognised teaching qualification A minimum of one years experience of working on activities such as external trips, residentials, outdoor pursuits, projects, and vocational, personal and employability units. The above are minimum criteria. These may be enhanced at the discretion of the Selection Panel.
