Pay Rate to Intermediary: £19.85 per hour
Spinwell is recruiting for a Switchboard Operator for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SWITCHBOARD OPERATOR
1. To provide a quality customer service to all members of the public.
2. To answer calls received at a centralised switchboard and by use of prescriptive questioning, filter calls and direct callers to the relevant department or person promptly and effectively. Where suitable, advise and resolve at first point of contact.
3. To operate the switchboard fault reporting system in accordance with procedure and notify supervisor if any action is necessary.
4. To support the Control Room Operations as and when required e.g. Major Incident situations.
5. To receive and transmit data and messages e.g. email and utilise Force Systems to resolve queries.
6. To be aware of Force policies on Equal Opportunities, Ground Rules, Health & Safety and Data Protection and to comply with the legislation and the standards of good practice.
7. Any other duties as directed by a Supervisory Officer commensurate with the post and salary grading.
As a secure Force Communications Centre (FCC), with no public access except by appointment, there is limited contact with the general public. However, there will be a requirement to cover reception duties which will include the following:
1. Admittance of authorised FCC visitors, facilities staff and other police personnel, then inform the relevant point of contact of their visitors' arrival.
2. Sign in visitors and issue passes, if required.
3. Receive post and other deliveries, signing for recorded and special delivery items where appropriate, and inform relevant personnel when deliveries arrive.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE SWITCHBOARD OPERATOR
1. NVQ level 2, or equivalent level of qualification, or an equivalent amount of proven relevant experience.
2. Ability to communicate fluently through the medium of Welsh and English.
3. Good communication skills together with the ability to work well in a team environment or on their own initiative.
4. The use of information technology to a standard level together with knowledge of Microsoft packages.
5. Degree in Civil Engineering, or relevant degree with compensatory knowledge, abilities and skills.
