Job summary We are looking for someone to join our already established medical secretarial team on a part time basis who is also able to help cover periods of annual leave. The post holder will be able to work under pressure, effectively prioritise and be able to work to deadlines to meet targets. They will be expected to work to a high professional standard with an eye for attention and detail and ideally a knowledge of medical terminology. Main duties of the job Key Responsibilities Take ownership for new referrals both NHS and private. Where necessary to liaise with patients and ensure that referrals are promptly managed using audio typing or dedicated software programmes. This will include sourcing relevant notes, results and scans and using initiative to obtain any missing details. Thorough understanding of patient pathways, current working practices and policies. Understand the implications of patient choice and electronic booking of referrals. Daily checking of referral status to include advice and guidance requests, 2 week wait and urgent referrals. To inform GPs of triage/advice and guidance replies and to update patient records. Maintain track of referrals that have not been actioned by hospital or missed by GP Take telephone calls from patients and professional organisations (hospitals) in an efficient, tactful and compassionate manner. Ensure patient records are updated. To make use of information technology and to be involved with changing technology as it becomes available. Take part in external and internal training courses and meetings as required. To undertake a full range of secretarial duties for GPs and the practice team.
