SEN Teaching Assistant

Equitas is proud to be working with a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) school that provides tailored education and support to students with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and other complex needs. The Role:
Equitas is seeking a compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team. You will play a crucial role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have access to a high-quality education in a safe and supportive setting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEN, adapting teaching methods to meet individual learning needs.
* Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
* Support students with communication, social skills, and emotional regulation.
* Use de-escalation strategies and behaviour management techniques to support students with SEMH needs.
* Work closely with the SENCO, therapists, and other staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
* Assist with personal care tasks where necessary, ensuring students’ dignity and comfort.
* Create a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
* Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents where required.
Requirements:
* Previous experience working in an SEN setting is essential.
* Understanding of various SEN needs, including Autism, ADHD, and SEMH.
* Experience using alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton) is desirable.
* Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
* A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students.
* Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification) are desirable but not essential.
* An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
