An opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Nurse for Looked After Children and Young People in the NCHC Norfolk Looked After Children and Young People Health Team. We are a friendly and dynamic service covering Norfolk, facilitating statutory health assessments for 5-18 year olds living in Local Authority care.
Main duties of the job
* Following national and local guidelines, plan, organise, deliver and evaluate comprehensive health assessments for Looked After Children.
* Develop and embrace flexible ways of delivering services to achieve positive outcomes.
* Promote and support the health of Looked After Children.
* Work closely with health professionals to ensure comprehensive health assessments are undertaken.
* Provide age-appropriate health promotion advice and act as a resource for children, carers, and professionals.
* Establish robust lines of communication relating to health care.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Substantial experience and knowledge of child development and emotional/behavioural disorders.
* Registered on Part 1 of the NMC register and ideally Part 3 as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse.
* Provide professional advice and training on health issues relating to Looked After Children.
* Establish effective links across organisational and inter-agency boundaries.
* Model good standards of health assessments and support other health staff.
* Communicate complex and sensitive information regarding Looked After Children.
* Knowledge of the legal framework for children's services.
* Post-registration training in safeguarding children/child protection.
* Up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based research relating to Looked After Children.
* Analyse complex information regarding health needs to develop health care plans.
* Familiarity with NHS SystmOne child health system.

Qualifications
* Registered on Part 1 of the NMC register
* Registered on Part 3 of the NMC register as a Specialist Community Public Health Practitioner or holds relevant equivalent experience
* Proven evidence of continued professional development
* Good knowledge of children and young people’s legislation and guidance
* First line management or leadership training
* Educated to degree level in health
Experience
* Skills in holistic assessment of health needs
* Experience of working with children/young people with emotional health needs
* Experience of working in the community
* Post-qualifying experience in health visiting or school nursing
* Understanding of emotional/mental health challenges for children who are looked after
Skills
* Ability to work independently and challenge at all levels
* Ability to work with parents and carers while promoting best interests of children
* Ability to advocate for the client group
* Excellent organisation and record-keeping skills
* Familiarity with using Electronic Health Record SystmOne
Communication
* Able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms

* Proven ability to work well in a team and in multi-agency collaboration
* Ability to adapt to changing work patterns to accommodate patient/service needs
