Role Purpose: To deliver commercially focused, risk-based specialist employment and immigration legal advice to the business, including the management of ET claims and HR Policy.
Responsibilities:
* Providing commercially focused, risk-based employment and immigration legal advice on a variety of matters, including day-to-day queries and advice on the implementation of change programmes (TUPE, SOSR, redundancies), and employee contracts.
* Ensuring ways of working are in place to minimise the risk of any illegal working.
* Managing ET claims and Settlement Agreements, ensuring work is delivered to a high quality, all stakeholders are updated at relevant times, and all ET deadlines are complied with.
* Liaising with external lawyers to ensure they deliver high-quality work in accordance with our best practice principles and fee structure.
* Keeping up to date with employment law developments and determining any relevant next steps.
* Supporting the building of HR and management capability by providing education, training, and support on relevant aspects of employment and immigration law.
* Managing and developing the Legal Assistant and complying with all apprenticeship requirements.
* Introducing and implementing a Policy plan, ensuring there is a rhythm and routine in place for reviewing policies, keeping them relevant, up-to-date with internal and external developments, and legally compliant.
* Working, liaising, communicating, and building relationships with Retail and SSO HR, Store and SSO management teams, Reward, Payroll, and Legal Services.
* Making key decisions regarding potential risks and escalating any PR or financial risk accordingly.
Minimum Requirements:
* Fully qualified lawyer with employment law experience (at least 5 years PQE).
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to clarify complex issues and concepts for non-lawyers.
* Ability to work as a team player and to build and manage relationships at all levels.
* Shows initiative, commitment, and flexibility when faced with obstacles.
* Excellent document management, organisational skills, and ability to prioritise.
* Strong influencing and coaching skills, with motivation to contribute to knowledge sharing across the team.
