About the Role:
Are you passionate about planning and development? Eager to make a real impact and gain valuable experience in the planning sector? We’re offering a unique opportunity for an undergraduate taking a year out to studies to work as a Planning Industry Placement Officer (Intern) within our dynamic Development Management team.
As an intern, you’ll be at the forefront of key planning processes, managing a caseload of straightforward planning applications, assisting with planning appeals, and contributing to the development of a vibrant and sustainable community. You’ll gain hands-on experience and mentoring from senior professionals, expanding your knowledge and skills in development management.
What You’ll Do:
1. Manage your own caseload of straightforward planning applications, including householder and minor developments, making a real difference in your community.
2. Provide expert advice on planning submissions, evaluating site suitability, and helping applicants align their proposals with national and local policies.
3. Engage with stakeholders by providing clear and helpful responses to inquiries from the public, councillors, and developers.
4. Assist with complex applications and planning appeals, offering valuable support to senior officers and learning from their expertise.
5. Conduct site inspections and attend site meetings to evaluate proposed developments in person.
6. Support the Planning Committee, assisting with preparations and offering professional insights on planning decisions.
7. Participate in professional development opportunities, gaining exposure to a range of planning areas and improving your technical knowledge.
Who We’re Looking For:
1. A passionate individual with an interest in planning and development, ready to dive into a fast-paced and rewarding role.
2. A student or graduate currently studying or have completed modules relevant to a bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field.
3. Excellent communicator with strong verbal and written skills, able to explain complex planning concepts in an accessible way.
4. Organised and adaptable, able to manage your own workload and prioritise tasks effectively.
5. A problem-solver who is enthusiastic about improving the built environment and helping deliver sustainable developments.
6. Willing to learn: You’re committed to professional growth and development and eager to gain experience in the planning sector.
