Job Summary
Are you an enthusiastic and dynamic Dietitian with excellent team working skills? An exciting opportunity has arisen to cover a maternity leave to join our team of 11 medical Dietitians at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The successful candidate will carry a complex caseload of acute medical patients as well as supporting the team with expert knowledge and guidance in relation to complex nutritional support. This role is vital in implementing innovative pathways from the front door of the hospital as identifying patients at risk of malnutrition early is vital to improve outcomes throughout their admission. The post holder will be a team lead, working alongside another band 7 within the medical dietetic team, which is continually growing. The medical dietetic team cover a variety of inpatient specialities including stroke, respiratory, diabetes, acute medicine and elderly care.
Due to the nature of the position, there will be much scope to complete research, audit and showcase dietetics. The post holder will actively participate in development, education and delivery of training to dietetic staff, healthcare professionals and dietetic students. Main Duties of the Job
The successful candidate will lead a small team of Dietitians and Dietetic Assistants, but you will be part of the larger Dietetic team at the QE Hospital of over 60 Dietitians covering various specialities. You will work closely with therapy and nursing colleagues, to develop the acute medical services and work closely with the Dietetic leads at UHB to continue to develop the dietetic service. You will be expected to operationally manage a team in a fast-paced environment so good leadership is essential to this role.
The successful individual will take a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of a variety of complex patients so the applicant must have significant Dietetic experience within a range of specialities including enteral feeding, oral nutritional support and rehabilitation.
The post is for 12 months and 0.6wte.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* Evidence of relevant GCSE, NVQ, GNVQ, AS and A levels
* Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
* Registration with HCPC
Experience Essential
* Significant post-graduate experience in relevant specialist area
* Practical skill & in-depth experience in a multi-disciplinary setting in relevant specialist field evidenced by a learning portfolio and leading to advanced theoretical knowledge in area/s of clinical practice, which would be expected to be at a Masters level or equivalent
* Advanced specialist post-graduate training in relevant specialist area
* Significant to substantial postgraduate experience of working in a specialist capacity in multi-disciplinary teams in relevant specialties, leading to the acquisition of advanced theoretical knowledge and highly developed skills.
* Experience of training Dietetic students
* Evidence of relevant continued professional development in following areas
* Clinical e.g.
* accredited specialist training courses
* attendance at specialist group meetings of BDA
* Advanced Diploma in Dietetic Practice
* attendance at relevant multi-disciplinary courses/conferences
* Teaching e.g.
* presentation skills
* clinical supervisory skills training for student training
* communication skill training / counselling skills training
* cognitive behaviour therapy training (CBT)
* High level of knowledge gained through attendance at postgraduate specialist courses which would be expected to be at Masters Level or equivalent
* Significant post registration experience at entry to post

* In depth knowledge of nutritional assessment / nutritional screening tools
* Knowledge and experience of all types of nutritional support
