Assistant Nurse Manager (Registered Nurse) - Rochdale & Elmhurst
• Assist the Manager, Nursing in the management and education of care team members providing professional nursing care to patients. Proactively support efforts to ensure that standards for quality of care, patient satisfaction, and patient safety are maintained, as established by AdvantageCare Physicians including best practices, regulatory requirements, and clinical workflows.
• Serve as a leader, role model and liaison for the care team, ensuring quality patient-centric care at the medical offices.
• Provide educational support for all care team activities.
Principal Accountabilities
• Assist in managing the daily operations of the medical office care teams including ensuring that standards for quality of care, patient satisfaction, and patient safety are maintained.
• Assist in screening and selection of applicants and providing general orientation to newly hired team members.
• Assist in providing work direction, assigning schedules, conducting on-the-job training, monitoring/evaluating care team performance, and recommending personnel actions.
• Assist in the interpretation of and compliance with Human Resources, ACPNY and departmental policies and procedures.
• Ensure employees understand and comply with local, state, federal and regulatory standards, as they apply to respective job functions.
• Collaborate with providers and others on the clinical care team to formulate and implement comprehensive patient-centered plans of care to achieve expected outcomes.
• Act as the “Manager, Nursing” in his/her absence and cover other medical offices in absence of the clinical lead.
• Assist in ensuring compliance with all infection control policies, procedures and OSHA standards. Participate in program evaluation and quality improvement activities; actively seek input to support patient care and outcomes.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and report any breaches to the Manager, Nursing and the Practice Administrator.
• Collaborate with the Quality team to identify areas in need of improvement as well as sharing of Best Practices.
• Participate in quality improvement activities; actively seek input to support patient care and outcomes.
• Work in a clinical capacity, providing back-up when appropriate. Understand and support practice of other team members and refer patients appropriately.
• Provide surgical coordination and oversight of the Endoscopy specialty suites.
• Assist the Manager, Nursing in conducting monthly staff meetings.
• Collaborate with Case Management team members on complex cases as needed.
• Assist in promoting employee engagement and wellness, shared decision making, and collaboration with all members of the healthcare team.
• Ensure nursing practices of the care team as well as own practices are in accordance with NYS Department of Education nursing standards.
• Support ongoing education within the practice for all clinical staff as well as own professional development through periodic attendance at ongoing educational events.
• Ensure nurses are up to date on required license & certifications, e.g., ACLS, PALS, and BLS. Maintain personnel files for all clinical staff.
• Participate in the development of new programs within the organization. Support implementation of programs and procedures developed at an organizational level.
• Assist in assessing the practice needs to identify gaps in care teams and assist with recruiting and retention efforts as appropriate.
• Support nursing staff with educational opportunities and requirements. Schedule orientation and educational programs for newly hired nurses.
• Manage supplies to contain costs and continually review products and their value to ensure the ordering is appropriate to the facility.
• Ensure that equipment faults / maintenance problems are reported promptly to appropriate individuals.
• Review Facility Codes/Disaster plans.
• Ensure all staff is oriented to fire/emergency procedures. Conduct/facilitate and document/evaluate drills (fire, disaster, code blue).
• Performs other job-related duties as required.
Education, Training, Licenses, Certifications
• Associate Degree in Nursing (R)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (P)
• Current unencumbered New York State Registered Nurse license (R)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification (R)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) Certification (P) (Required for offices with active GI suites)
Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience practicing as a Registered Nurse (R)
• Previous supervisory or teaching experience (P)
• Outpatient ambulatory care experience (P)
• Proficient in the use of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) (R)
• Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.) (R)
• Detail oriented; strong analytical and problem-solving skills. (R)
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal) with all types/levels of audiences. (R)
• Ability to analyze problems and recommend and deploy strategies to improve performance in collaboration with the leadership team. (R)
