What to expect
As the Factory Hygienist, you will be responsible for promoting and leading initiatives related to food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) throughout the organization. Your role will involve ensuring that all employees are trained and aware of food safety protocols and GMP standards. Additionally, you will oversee the maintenance of food system management practices to ensure compliance and uphold the highest standards of hygiene and safety within the factory environment.
A day in the life of a Factory Hygienist
* Leads factory food safety team
* Evaluates cleaning/sanitation effectiveness to prevent microbiological, allergenic, and other contaminations
* Ensures functioning Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS) are in place
* Coordinates internal GMP inspections - Ensures the closure of findings
* Represents quality and food safety in capital project meetings
* Conducts extended run validation studies to help factory important measures (e.g. Asset Intensity) while ensuring food safety requirements are met
* Coaches employees on everybody’s role and impact on food safety
* Reviews internal GMP inspection findings and follows up with involved functions to ensure timely completion
* Ensures cascade of emerging threats and trends in food safety topics and strategies to mitigate risks
* Supports the quality failures analysis and Manufacturing Excellence initiatives to eliminate the defects related to food safety
* Supports problem solving and solution development during incident investigation with regard to food safety
* Ensures audit readiness for food safety audits
Role Requirements
* University graduate or equivalent (preferred microbiology or related degree)
* Experience as a hygienist in a food factory is an asset
* Experience with hygienic design is an asset
* Demonstrated competence as a team member in a factory: Quality, Production Support, Application Group
* Experience with working in unionized environments is an asset
* Experience in successfully implementing food safety programs as: Participating in project teams, Leading part of a change effort, Participating in audit teams and/or improvement projects with more senior staff members
