Your new role
Your new role as a Mechanical Design Engineer will involve working on projects from the initial brief through to the final manufacture and implementation. You will be responsible for designing and implementing cost-effective equipment modifications to improve safety, reliability, and throughput. You will develop project specifications with colleagues from various engineering disciplines, test and evaluate theoretical designs, and solve complex problems with manufacturing departments, subcontractors, suppliers, and customers. Your role will also include managing projects using engineering principles and techniques, planning and designing new production processes, and producing detailed specifications and outline designs. You will recommend modifications following prototype test results and use your research, analytical, conceptual, and planning skills to ensure the success of each project.
What you'll need to succeed
What you'll need to succeed is a good knowledge of SolidWorks software, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. You should be able to ensure that products can be made reliably and perform consistently in specified operating environments. Knowledge of British Standards for equipment, health and safety regulations, and the ability to prepare risk assessments are essential. You will also need to specify appliances such as motors and gearboxes, help with the preparation of quotes for customers, and visit client sites to address issues or prepare projects.
