We are seeking applications for one Consultant in Respiratory Medicine who will be based at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
The successful applicants will be working as part of our team of six Consultant Physicians within the Directorate of Respiratory Medicine on The James Cook University Hospital site. These posts offer an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic clinicians to join the team in developing both acute and chronic respiratory services and the post holders will participate in all aspects of the service. The successful candidates would participate in a specialist respiratory on-call with no acute medicine on-call commitments.
The Directorate of Respiratory Medicine includes a 35 bedded inpatient ward incorporating an 8 bedded Respiratory Support Unit for non-invasive ventilation; a Lung Cancer Nursing Team; TB Nursing Team; COPD Outreach Service, COVID-19 virtual ward service, domiciliary NIV and a Specialist Respiratory Physiology Laboratory. Consultant led Acute Respiratory Assessment Service and Pleural Day Case Service runs weekly. We have specialist cancer, pleural disease, and difficult asthma, TB, and bronchiectasis clinics, sleep and NIV clinics.
Facilities for interventional bronchoscopy are available in a modern endoscopy suite. Endobronchial ultrasound, bronchial stenting, argon plasma coagulation and electrocautery tumour de-bulking are done routinely. Advanced Emphysema MDT and endoscopic Lung volume reduction service are in place.
The hospital has an excellent cardiothoracic unit and three consultant radiologists with an interest in respiratory disease/thoracic malignancy. The trust is a designated Lung Cancer Centre with radiotherapy and chemotherapy services available at The James Cook University Hospital site.
Applicants should possess full GMC registration, MRCP (or equivalent) and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview. We will also consider applications for candidates who are currently working as consultants but aiming to gain certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).
The successful candidates will be appointed under the current terms and conditions of service for NHS Consultants. Full consideration will be given to applicants who wish to apply for a reduced/part time contract.
