University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279)
This is a Fixed Term post for 1 year, in a busy comprehensive ENT department. The successful applicants will be part of a team of 6 consultants, 3 SPRs, 4 trust grade and 2 Trainees. We are looking for competent ENT surgeons to work in OPD and theatres and to participate in the department research and audit work. This is an excellent opportunity to develop the necessary skills and achieve the competencies required for higher training.
Main duties of the job
The Trust Doctor CT2 Equivalent will have responsibilities towards maintaining good documentation, prompt discharge communications and planning work.
On Call Commitment:
The on call commitment will be weekdays only on a 1 in 4 rota on a non-residence basis.
The post holder will be expected to participate in "emergency week" cover at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton (8am - 5pm Monday to Friday), supervised by a Consultant, one week in nine.
The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior. While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.

Job responsibilities
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
Teaching: Will be able to attend teaching and research meetings at Brighton on a regular basis.
The Trust supports the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal College of Surgeons and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
Research: This is encouraged but is not directly part of the Trust Doctor CT2 Equivalent remit.
Person Specification
Experience and Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
* Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
* MRCS
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems
* Demonstrate appropriate technical and clinical competence and evidence of the development of diagnostic skills and clinical judgement
* Shows aptitude for practical skills, e.g. hand-eye coordination, dexterity, visuospatial awareness
* Attendance at relevant courses e.g. ATLS Basic Surgical Skills or equivalent, CCrlSP or equivalent, ALERT or equivalent, ALS, PLS and two ENT craft courses
Knowledge
* Appropriate level of clinical knowledge / up to date
* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
Organisation and Planning
* Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
* Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
* Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
