Greater Manchester Academies Trust is made up Manchester Communication Academy, Manchester Communication Primary Academy, North Manchester Initial Teacher Training and Manchester Communication Research School.
Our ambition is to provide the highest quality education for children and young people in the urban context of Manchester. At GMAT, we believe passionately in the power of an excellent education to transform lives and futures and feel that we can build on our social investment activities, local knowledge, community relationships and strong partnerships to make this happen.
At the heart of our Trust are our five core values: trustworthy; helpful; inspiring; straightforward and heart.
The School
Manchester Communication Academy is a vibrant school that is at the heart of the community and is committed to improving educational outcomes for all of our students. MCA is proud to be a community hub and our outward facing work is exceptional.
Manchester Communication Academy serves the community of Harpurhey and its surrounding districts. We are an 11-16 secondary school with a primary school also on site. Close collaboration between the two schools is fundamental to our way of working.
Together, our driving force is to mitigate the impact of disadvantage and ensuring that the young people that we serve are equipped and ready to be successful and happy adults who we are proud to know.
In our Ofsted inspection in 2019 we were recognised as a GOOD school and want to build on this by recruiting excellent practitioners that are driven by evidence informed practice. MCA received Research School status in September 2019 and we are proud of the work that we conduct in partnership with the EEF and how this drives our teaching practice.
Everyone at MCA shares these same values and this is important to us. If you share these values too, then we would love to hear from you!
The Department
We are passionate about the power of Geography as a means to enrich and empower our students. Therefore, we have designed an ambitious curriculum that exposes them to a wide range of human and physical geography, alongside opportunities for fieldwork, and engaging with geography outside the classroom. We have structured our curriculum around continent themes to enable our students to have a strong sense of location, and their own place within the world, with strong literacy links through relevant books and real life explorer experiences.
Declarative and procedural knowledge is carefully sequenced throughout the geography curriculum, which deepens in complexity over time. Collaborative planning enables us to manage teacher workload and ensure a balance between teacher autonomy and consistency. All of our schemes of work identify the core knowledge and suggested activities with accompanying resources, but teachers are liberated to plan according to their students’ needs and in keeping with the principles of effective teaching and learning. At KS4, our students undertake the AQA GCSE Geography course. We engage our students in ambitious and challenging study, which is supported by exciting fieldwork trips to ensure our students are exposed to meaningful geographical studies in the field.

We think that applying for a new role should always be seen as a 2-way process, you have to be right for us, but the school also has to be right for you. So if you are interested in applying, please do feel free to get in touch to discuss the role.
Manchester Communication Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
