Job Description:
Are you a recent graduate? Are you eager to build your experience supporting children with mental health difficulties? Are you passionate about restorative approaches?
A unique Specialist School in Chippenham is looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their team in September. All the pupils at the school have diagnosed social, emotional and mental health needs, as well as associated challenging behaviours and adverse childhood experiences. The school is therefore looking for a Graduate who is knowledgeable about Psychology or Criminology, passionate about helping young people, and interested in a career in Youth Engagement.
This Specialist School has a deep focus on addressing the educational, social, and therapeutic needs of each student, focusing on individual happiness and well-being where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The ideal Learning Support Assistant will have excellent interpersonal skills, resilience, empathy, and previous experience working with children or vulnerable adults.
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will help to identify and overcome any learning barriers that the students face, and help build self-esteem, social skills, and emotional resilience. You will also implement positive behaviour strategies, with the help of the class teacher and multi-therapy teams, and motivate the students to make appropriate choices.
This role is perfect for anyone interested in a career in Youth Engagement. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will gain hands-on experience working with vulnerable children; and through building strong, robust relationships, you will increase the engagement, attainment, and life chances of the students. This will provide you with essential restorative experience within anti-social and challenging settings – the perfect opportunity if you are considering a career in rehabilitation, probation, counselling, or youth justice!
