We are seeking a passionate and organised self-starter with attention to detail and previous experience of volunteer recruitment, engagement and support to carry out this important job-share role.
Our volunteers are essential to the success of the Hospice and this role involves recruiting additional volunteers as well as providing an inclusive and supportive environment for our 260+ existing volunteers.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, an approachable and confident manner when dealing with people at all levels and the ability to motivate others.
You will have previous experience working in a volunteer support role, combined with well-developed IT & database skills. Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise and juggle conflicting demands, are essential.
Superb communication skills are a must, as well as a good understanding of volunteering and the difference it can make.
This is a demanding role and requires someone proactive with tenacity and a real interest in people and local communities. Whilst the role encompasses the entire volunteer workforce, this post will lead on supporting and developing our retail volunteer workforce.

Person Specification
* Relevant experience in volunteer recruitment, engagement and support
* Experience of working with databases
* Experience of communicating effectively with all relevant stakeholders
* Knowledge of volunteering techniques, methods and good practice
* Well-developed IT skills, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to relate well to people from different backgrounds.
* Proven organisational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritise and juggle conflicting demands
* Ability to use initiative and work with minimal supervision
* Ability to work under pressure
Key Responsibilities
1. Respond to initial enquiries from potential volunteers.
2. Process volunteer applications, including:
• acknowledge receipt of applications
• arrange interviews
• request references
• arrange and carry out DBS checks
3. In conjunction with the relevant Service Manager, contribute to the induction of new volunteers.
4. Co-ordinate offers of corporate volunteering support.
5. Responsible for the Volunteer Database, ensuring it is up-to-date at all times.
6. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date records for all volunteers.
7. Liaise with managers in all service areas in order to maintain accurate and up-to-date information on current vacancies.
8. Provide on-going support to all volunteers.
9. Member of the Volunteering Development Group, actively involved in the development of our Volunteer Workforce.
10. Monitor volunteer rotas to ensure there is adequate volunteer cover throughout the Hospice, alerting the Corporate Services Manager to any issues of concern.
11. Arrange the annual Volunteer Services Awards and Thank You party plus any other ad-hoc social events involving volunteers.
