Product Support Engineer
Wärtsilä is an innovative technology company known for being a forerunner in the Marine and Energy markets. Our ultimate aim is to provide increased value to both our customers and society. We want to transition the world towards a decarbonised and sustainable future. By pushing the boundaries of engineering and technology, we can make it work. We are always on the lookout for future-oriented talent – want to join the ride?
As ANCS (Automation, Navigation & Control Systems), we transform how vessels perform to create the safest and most efficient journey for our customers. We are now looking for a Product Support Engineer to join our team working for a better future. The preferred location for the position is in Leicester, UK.
What you will be doing
This is a Marine Service Engineer role in which the main objectives are to repair our marine sensors and provide technical assistance as part of the Global Support Team, but also to develop new markets and customers for Guidance's marine product portfolio. The role is based in our Leicester office and while much of our current customer base is based in this region, the new market development aspect of the role will likely involve travel.
As Product Support Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities:
1. Troubleshooting, repair, upgrade and maintenance of Guidance Marine position reference products from a hardware and software perspective, both in our workshop and at customer sites including offshore vessels.
2. Providing remote technical assistance to offshore vessels as part of our Global Support Team.
3. Assisting the Business Development and Engineering teams with bringing new products to market, including installation of equipment and offshore trials.
4. Accurately document and report on repair activities supporting Repair Case management and the RMA process, including creation of initial repair evaluation reports, providing quotation information to customers, completing repair and test reports, and maintaining repairs system database.
5. Developing and maintaining repair methods and work instructions for all products in line with ongoing product development.
6. Ensuring safety and quality policies are followed, materials are accurately managed, and team workload is managed.
To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
1. Confident in the assembly and test of mechanical and electronic equipment.
2. Experience of equipment testing, electronics programming, recording and basic analysis of test data, electronic board level assembly and fault finding.
3. Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics.
4. Excellent communication skills with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
5. High attention to detail and good time management skills.
6. A proactive individual who is not afraid to get stuck in.
7. Able to work effectively and efficiently independently and as part of a team.
8. Willingness to travel approximately 60% of your time.
