The Project Management team sits within the Buildings Places business line, our responsibility is to help clients go beyond just delivering projects on time and on budget. We focus on understanding key success drivers and deliver outcomes that meet our clients’ broader goals. The Project Management Apprenticeship will start in September 2025 predominately based within the Basingstoke office. You will work under the close supervision of senior colleagues and the nature of the work can be fast paced to meet the client and project deadlines. As part of the Apprenticeship, you will work towards a BSc (Hons) Construction Management with University College of Estate Management (UCEM). Following successful completion of the degree, and upon achievement of the experience requirements, you will sit the Assessment of Professional Competency (APC) set by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Over the course of the four-year apprenticeship programme, you will have dedicated study days provided and access to a range of online and blended learning tools. What We Deliver At AECOM we work on a multitude of projects, ranging from residential, commercial, public sector, defence and beyond. The following is a selection of some exemplar projects that AECOM have project managed. Project Wellesley - AECOM was the Employers representative for Project Wellesley which was a high profile MOD tri-service enabler for a wider transformational programme to rationalise and consolidate existing MOD training delivery of logistics, policing and administration from across four separate locations onto one site at Worthy Down, near Winchester. The project comprised the demolition of existing infrastructure and the delivery of 25 new buildings, providing domestic, technical and training accommodation facilities, offices, retail and leisure facilities, medical and dental facilities and supporting infrastructure to cover every aspect of an active military training establishment, all whilst maintaining an uninterrupted training output. Heathrow Future Terminal 2 - AECOM provides project management and multidisciplinary design services to redesign the footprint of the current terminals 1 and 2 at Heathrow Airport. Providing a new baggage system below ground to support the existing Terminal 2 and the newly created extension which delivers additional capacity to the terminal. The programme also encompasses the demolition and provision of supporting infrastructure whilst keeping the environment live and operational to avoid disruption to the end user operations. Serpentine Pavilion - AECOM provides project management and multidisciplinary design services for the iconic Serpentine Pavilion in Kensington Gardens, one of the world’s top ten most-visited architectural and design exhibitions. Each year, we collaborate with renowned architects to transform visionary designs into functional, buildable spaces. With tight timelines and innovative engineering solutions, our team ensures the Pavilion becomes a standout feature of London’s cultural calendar. Moorefield Eye Hospital – The Oriel - The Oriel project is a joint initiative by Moorfields Eye Hospital and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology to create a world-class eye health facility in London's King's Cross. This new centre will integrate clinical care, research, and education under one roof, enhancing collaboration and innovation in ophthalmology. AECOM are appointed to provide project management services for the Oriel, along with a host of other services including lead designer a variety of engineering services. Job Responsibilities: AECOM Typical PM Duties Apprentices are likely to gain exposure on some of the duties outlined below, however, this will be dependent on the stage of the project they are working on. Inception / Feasibility Coordinate and prepare initial viability studies Appoint project consultants, advise the client on appointment terms, fee structures, and consultant responsibilities Prepare the Project Brief and Project Execution Plan Establish project processes, including communication, reporting, correspondence, drawings distribution, authorisation procedures, and meeting structures Set the overall project budget and prepare project cashflows Design Develop and maintain the master programme from start to finish Manage the design team and consultants, chair design meetings and record minutes Oversee design progress, monitor information production, and review cost plans Report regularly on project progress to the client Coordinate required surveys, tendering, and appointments Ensure timely submission of statutory approvals Track consultant and contractor progress against the master programme Assist with planning applications and negotiations with authorities Manage the project risk register Procurement Develop the procurement strategy and contractor appointment procedures with the client Oversee tender document preparation and consultant coordination Manage tender distribution, interviews, and analysis Construction Chair and minute construction progress meetings Act as Employers Agent or Contract Administrator Manage change control and risk management processes Handover, commissioning and building management maintenance Monitor the preparation and acceptance of the CDM health and safety file, as-built drawings, manuals, maintenance agreements, and guarantees Coordinate project handover and logistics of possession Completion Oversee and confirm final account agreements with consultants and contractors Establish procedures for defect notification, rectification, and final inspection during the defect liability period Sustainability Weave sustainable development solutions into the daily activities of our clients, to assist in making better decisions around investment, corporate strategies, supply chains and procurement across all sectors Social Value Embed social value principles into all your work for clients to improve social outcomes that provide uplift for individuals, communities and society in general Advance greater equity, ED&I within AECOM and beyond by building diverse talent, expanding understanding, enriching communities and thinking without limits Extend your social value contributions through employee-driven community investments, including strategic nonprofit partnerships, pro bono work, skills-based volunteering and philanthropy
