Job Summary
Performs thorough working knowledge of life guarding procedures. Work involves teaching swimming lessons, enforcing safety policies, and maintaining pool facilities. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions

1. Teach swimming lessons daily to all ages.
2. Lifeguard public swimming sessions to assure safety of public.
3. Clean and sanitize bathrooms and pool facilities daily utilizing mops and brooms.
4. Maintain good public relations through aquatic services and facilities.
5. Prevent accidents in the water and on the decks.
6. Rescue and emergency care of accident victims.
7. Courteous and diligent enforcement of all rules and regulations as defined in Pool Operations.
8. Scrutinize interior of pool and exterior pool area for potential hazards and initiate removal of such hazards.
9. Assist in clean-up and maintenance of pool area and admission area.
10. Attend all scheduled in-service training.
11. Assist Pool Manager in completing daily cash reports.
12. Collect pool admission fees and supervise wading pools when not collecting fees.
13. Perform related work and reports as assigned.
Conditions Of Employment
1. Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.
2. Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
3. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.
4. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
Required Education
Obtained or pursuing high school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency.
Required Work Experience
Previous work related experience (i.e. cashier, swimming)
Experience Preference
One (1) year of lifeguard experience for the City.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
1. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instructor Certificates, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
2. Requires working knowledge of pool operations and procedures.
Work Conditions
Individual works outdoors to oversee programs, occasionally indoors for program registration. The job has significant hazards from working outdoors and physical demands are moderate to high.
Physical Demands
The job has no significant exposure to hazards and physical demands are moderate. Duties involve working with lightweight materials and/or using force equal to lifting up to 25 pounds.
Mental Demands
While performing the duties of this class, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; use math and mathematical reasoning; perform detailed work, multiple deadlines and concurrent tasks; work with constant interruptions; and interact with staff and the public.
Salary: $9.69 per hour
