Job overview
Looking for something new & exciting in the NHS? Ever considered Prison healthcare?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Primary Care Nurse to join the Offender Health Directorate working at HMP Fosse Way. HMP Fosse Way is a Category C Resettlement Prison.
HMP Fosse Way houses 1,715 prisoners and focuses on the rehabilitation of offenders and their reintegration back into society. It consists of 7 House blocks across 4 floors. There is a dedicated healthcare suite located in the main building with additional multi-use rooms across the establishment including rooms for groups or 1-2-1’s.
Main duties of the job
The Primary Healthcare Team provides a wide variety of care from initial assessment/screening for all new patients, clinical triage, emergency response, care of minor illness and injuries, nurse-led clinics for long-term conditions, and health promotion. We aim to provide healthcare to offenders that is equivalent to those in the community.
Nursing in a custodial environment provides the perfect opportunity to offer a positive nurse-led health experience to a group of patients who are usually identified as experiencing poor health outcomes.
Working as part of a fully integrated Healthcare Team, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to our patients, who often do not receive essential healthcare services in the community for a variety of reasons.
Whilst in our care, we empower our patients to become more aware of their health needs, to be screened and receive vaccinations for a variety of conditions.
We offer help and support to stabilize long-term conditions, as well as treatment on a daily basis for minor injuries and illnesses.
We support and develop our nursing team to lead on areas of specialty which interest them and can offer additional training as required.
We also offer a supportive preceptorship package for newly qualified nurses.
You will work closely with our Prison Officer colleagues to provide a high standard of safe and patient-centered healthcare services.
