As an Underwriting Apprentice within our Municipal business, you'll be contributing to the development and management of a specific area of insurance. This apprenticeship is a great opportunity for someone who would like to start a career with one of the world’s most successful insurance companies.
Your role could involve:
1. Understanding the risks a customer can face and how our products and services can support them.
2. Assessing what could go wrong for a customer and how we make sure we charge them the right amount to ensure we have enough funds available to support them when they need us.
3. Reviewing what kinds of situations need to be covered and making sure our policy is worded to provide the right protection.
4. Building relationships and developing your negotiation skills to work more strongly with our customers and partners.
5. Working with experienced underwriters who will support you and help you navigate a dynamic and rapidly changing insurance market.
What can I look forward to?
1. Learning how to manage business relationships, determining and evaluating their insurance requirements and identifying opportunities to enhance their insurance programmes with us.
2. Developing a comprehensive understanding of the insurance market and the various products and services.
3. Understanding the importance of being proactive in developing relationships and networks required to be successful, all whilst achieving business objectives and making sure the customers' needs are met.
4. Discovering more about the impact of change within the insurance market and how it affects your role and the wider organisation.
5. Building relationships with key stakeholders to support our customers and brokers’ needs.
6. Working with and learning from an experienced team who will support you through your journey.
Alongside your day-to-day work, you‘ll complete an Insurance Practitioner Level 3 Apprenticeship as well as an insurance industry recognised Certificate in Insurance via the Chartered Insurance Institute. The apprenticeship will take around 15 months.
In addition to investing in your learning, we give you time to study as well as the opportunity to put what you learn into practice.
Your qualification is just the start of your career at Zurich. Once your apprenticeship is complete you will have plenty of opportunities to put your new skills into practice while continuing to develop and grow.

What you’ll need:
1. Full right to work and reside in the UK – You must have been ordinarily resident in the UK for the last three years and have the right to work in the UK. We cannot accept applications from those who require sponsorship to work in the UK.
2. A minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 including Maths and English.
3. A professional attitude with a positive ‘can do’ approach to your work.
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
5. Ability to build strong working relationships.
6. Effective personal planning and organisation.
7. The talent to deliver excellent customer service.
NB: Due to Apprenticeship funding rules, we can only accept applicants who haven’t completed a qualification in the same field at the same or higher level to the course you are applying for.
