Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is looking for a Senior Ecologist – Natural Capital to join our dynamic and pioneering team. This pivotal role will play a key part in developing our commercial offerings and expand on the opportunities presented by Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), carbon and other emerging natural capital markets. This is an exciting opportunity to build upon existing innovative projects such as the Bristol Avon Catchment Market, our farmer focussed Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund (NEIRF), and a wide range of ecological services delivered on both our own- and third-party land. As a small but ambitious team, you’ll have the chance to deliver significant landscape scale impact, by working with new and developing models and markets. What you’ll be doing: Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is committed to driving forward nature’s recovery on a landscape scale and we need a passionate and innovative Senior Ecologist – Natural Capital to drive forward the development of this work. You’ll be working as part of a small but dynamic team involved with a wide range of projects, including the groundbreaking Bristol Avon Catchment Market, NEIRF, working to support farmers with private finance opportunities and delivery of a range of specialist ecological services. You’ll play a key role in the development and expansion of our commercial offerings, including specialist ecological services as well as identifying opportunities to deliver impact through emerging natural capital markets (BNG, Carbon etc. – both regulatory and voluntary markets). Your key responsibilities will be to: Lead on the development of a clear commercial offering, to include specific ecological services alongside natural capital offerings such as BNG and carbon. Proactively identify new opportunities to generate income and deliver impact through regulatory and voluntary natural capital markets. Develop and maintain partnerships with landholders, farmers, statutory agencies and other stakeholders. Manage individual project finances, including budgets, grant claims and funding applications, ensuring financial accountability. Support the development of existing projects within the team such as the Bristol Avon Catchment Market, NEIRF and Great Chalfield as a ‘farmer learning and engagement hub’ showcasing natural capital opportunities. Oversee all aspects of project planning and implementation, including land management, blended finance strategies, monitoring & evaluation, legal consents, and site access. Work across Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s Nature Recovery directorate, contributing expertise and experience of private finance, developing nature markets and opportunities to deliver meaningful impact on the ground.Our Nature Recovery Directorate include the Nature Recovery team, the Water Team and our in-house Wiltshire and Swindon Biological Records Centre. What we’re looking for: We’re looking for a driven, passionate and commercially minded ecologist who is enthused about working in a dynamic and changing landscape that is at the forefront of delivering nature’s recovery. You’ll need a strong ecological background with experience working with private finance, such as BNG as well as, a proven track record in project management, landholder engagement ideally, within the farmed environment. You’ll be self-motivated, adaptable and opportunities focussed, with exceptional communication and organisation skills.
