Due to our continued growth, we are now recruiting for a Lead Engineer - Exterior Trims to be based at our customer's office in Crewe, UK.
Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Lead Engineer will be responsible for supporting the PL/PE/DE to ensure service is delivered of Exterior Trims with the right quality meeting customer expectations.
This role is highly demanding as the role as the LE needs to manage technical delivery and ensure design issues are resolved.
Lead Engineer will have to work closely with the ML/LE/DE, Customers to ensure service delivery is achieved.
Responsible for the Technical delivery, input/validate DFMEA/DVP, Delivery quality, Right First-time approach, design issues reporting and supporting governance of all Client Engagements.
Responsible to ensure all technical delivery processes are robustly deployed into Project plans, design Issue tracking/resolution mechanism, Design resource efficiency, Project task forecasting, upskilling/skill gaps.
The role requires being onsite at the customer's location 3 days a week.
AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY
1. Responsible for the overall development and delivery of components and relevant systems like Front Bumper facia, FEM system, Radiator Grille, Rear Bumper facia, Side sill claddings, Brightware badges, Glazing, ViSi BOMs for expected design responsibility including engineering signoff and K – release.
2. Responsible for ensuring that the components are compliant to the relevant legislation requirements.
3. Work with the relevant System Technical Lead (SYTL) System Requirements, Architecture, Integration and Validation engineers.
4. Point of contact for any build/functional issues raised on EKE systems.
5. Completion of root cause analysis (8D format)
6. Ownership and progression of KPM activities
7. Attendance where required in the relevant Customer meetings.
8. Lead design reviews with cross-functional attendance & suppliers once nominated.
9. Present status updates in relevant EK and EKE forums when requested and required.
10. Own & manage open issues lists for each area.
11. Co-ordinate resource if required on/offshore support.
12. Escalation of risks to project delivery
13. Support Customer Prototype procurement team with relevant technical support documentation.
14. Data management – ensure design in context with surrounding package data.
15. 3D Data to be loaded into LCA/Siemens Team Centre for Engineering Data Synchronisation Points (EDSP). See Appendix E.
16. Appropriate EDSP data readiness and transfers
17. Issue a weekly data tracker for all EDSP gateways.
18. Manage & issue a weekly CAD data tracker for series data (incl. series supplier data)
19. Data to be ready & complete for signed off by the part owner prior to the B-release dates for each part.
20. Fully detailed 2D & 3D information to be loaded into LCA/Siemens Team Centre & KVS for release (CAD standard - see section 2.2 above)
21. Responsible for checking and ensuring 2D and 3D data CAD from part Tier 1 Supplier’s conform to the required VW and Bentley CAD standards.
22. Weekly upload of latest 3D data into LCA/Siemens Team Centre for Bentley Engineering to review changes.
23. Create draft PDM’s to Bentley PDM standards for all EKE Systems. Agree production process with BY-Production/Manufacturing
24. Implications or impact introduced by the system / components into interfacing systems. Interior Trim or BiW must be identified with potential solutions.
25. Identification of any packaging concerns
26. Communication / information sharing & packaging reviews within the Body & Trim department.
27. The system requirements must meet all worldwide legislative and VW group requirements (see section below)
28. Keep track of issues arising out of design phase and resolve them.
29. Be the go-to person for PE/DE on technical issues.
30. Be the technical excellence link between the customer and the project team to ensure robust and first-time right approach.
31. Work close with customer/PE/DE and ensure project plan is on track for delivery.
32. Help design team with supplier/CFT team discussion of DFM/DFA/DFS.
33. Help team with completion of DVP actions and ensure robust/timely resolution of issues.
KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE
34. Excellent organization skills, prioritizing multiple project activities and guiding the team in right direction
35. Proven track record, Experienced in OEM or tier one component delivery.
36. Knowledge of change control, product definition and change management processes will also prove invaluable.
37. Ability to lead the resolution of business, technical and process issues as they arise.
38. Proficient in MS Office applications.
39. Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above, or equivalent qualification or experience.
40. Proficient in CATIA.
