We are looking for a highly motivated Nurse to join our small and friendly renal research team based at Heartlands Hospital. The renal team is part of the wider R&D team offering exciting opportunities and excellent patient care through research. The post holder may be required to travel to satellite dialysis units but will be based in the MIDRU building. Ideally, the successful candidate will have at least 2 years of experience working in either a renal or a research setting and will demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to research. The team currently has 2 nurses, a clinical trial coordinator, and a data manager but we are looking to grow and develop the renal research portfolio in collaboration with colleagues across sites.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take the lead on the day-to-day management of renal treatment and prevention trials. You will work closely with the renal Principal Investigators and Sub Investigators for haemodialysis, CAPD, hypertension, and other renal trials. You will work collaboratively as part of the clinical trials team and the wider multi-disciplinary team in the management of your own caseload of clinical trial patients.
As a Research Worker, you will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for renal patients and carers participating in clinical trials. This will involve taking patient consent for non-interventional studies, the recruitment of, education and monitoring of trial patients, and the collection and documentation of accurate data. Where appropriate, carry out or assist with clinical procedures to include taking vital signs, ECG procedures, phlebotomy, and the collection and management of tissue or blood samples.
The post holder will act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of a consistent high standard of research nursing practice. He/she will deputise for the Senior Sister Research Nurse and will support the leadership and management of the department with particular emphasis on quality and clinical standards.
