Job summary
The Medical Division at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals provides Acute care across the range of medical specialities in a large modern purpose-built hospital in Wakefield, including a large Acute Assessment Unit, Acute Elderly Assessment Unit, Coronary Care, and Acute (Respiratory) Care Unit. We also provide care for Acute Elderly Admissions and step-down care for patients in a less acute phase of their admission at Dewsbury & District Hospital.
Successful applicants will support the Gastroenterology specialty team in managing their in-patient & outpatient workload and will participate in the Trust-wide out-of-hours cover across both hospital sites.
The Gastroenterology team operates several clinics, which look at a wide variety of digestive diseases and disorders including:
1. Functional bowel disorders
2. Liver conditions
3. Bowel disease
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the post will include:
1. Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases.
2. Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate.
3. Out-patient activities - clinics.
4. Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings.
5. Involvement in relevant administration duties.
6. Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate.
7. Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities.

1. Have evidence of achievement of foundation competences from a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or equivalent, in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice.
2. Have evidence of achievement of Internal Medicine Stage 1 capabilities, via one of the following methods:
3. Current employment in a programme which leads to successful completion of Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training, via one of these approved routes:
4. UK Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training.
5. UK ACCS (Internal Medicine).
6. UK Broad Based Training (medicine route).
7. A standalone UK IMY3 programme (following completion of UK core medical training/ACCS (acute medicine)).
8. JRCPTB internationally level 3 accredited equivalent Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training programme.
9. Successful completion of one of the programmes listed above, evidenced by ARCP.
10. Completion of UK ST3 in General Internal Medicine and satisfactory progress for any subsequent GIM training, by the advertised post start date, evidenced by ARCP.
11. Evidence of achievement of Internal Medicine Stage 1 capabilities at the time of application. Acceptable evidence is only permitted via the Alternative Certificate to Enter Group 1 Higher Physician Specialty Training.
12. Have evidence that their present level of achievement and performance is commensurate with the totality of their period of training.
13. Have sufficient experience working in medical specialties (not including foundation level experience) by the advertised post start date. This can be via either:

15. UK Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training.
16. UK ACCS (Internal Medicine).
17. UK Broad Based Training (medicine route).
18. A standalone UK IMY3 programme (following completion of UK core medical training/ACCS (acute medicine)).
19. JRCPTB internationally level 3 accredited equivalent Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training programme or
20. Have at least 36 months experience in medical specialties (of which at least 18 months must include the care of acute medical in-patients). Experience in certain acute care common stem specialties can be counted towards the 36 months in some circumstances.
Desirable
1. Relevant experience from other specialties.
2. Experience of teaching clinical skills.
3. Clinical research and development.
Qualifications
Essential
1. MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
2. Either of the following:
3. MRCP(UK) Part 1 at the time of application and MRCP(UK) full diploma by the published deadline.
4. Eligibility for the specialist register in general internal medicine by the time of application.
5. Completion of Irish Basic Specialty Training in medicine and the MRCPI full diploma by the time of application.
6. ATLS, ALS, APLS or PALS certification.
Desirable
1. Progress towards or attainment of Royal College Exam.
2. Higher qualification e.g. MFARM, MRCP, MRCPG, MRCS, FRCA or equivalent.
