York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management (YTHFM) are looking for an approachable and flexible Cleaning and Catering Operative to join our team in Malton. Experience is not necessary as full training will be given, but a willingness to learn and develop your skills is essential.
The working pattern for this role is: Monday and Wednesday, 7am-2pm, every week. Saturday and Sunday 7am-2pm one out of 3 weekends.
Additional hours may also be available at times, for those who wish to work them.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities of the role are maintaining levels of cleanliness throughout a designated area, and provide a catering service on the wards.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to;
1. Ensuring that the ward/area you are assigned to is cleaned in accordance with the work schedule for that area. This will include lifting items and operating cleaning machinery, some of which is industrial standard
2. Undertaking specialist cleaning as required under the guidance of the Facilities Supervisor and/or Nurse in Charge and/or Infection Prevention Department
3. Assisting with the distribution of meals to wards
4. Plating up of meals, ensuring the dietary requirements of patients are met
5. Making and distributing hot drinks and cleaning and refilling water jugs
You will work without immediate supervision so must be able to prioritise and use your own initiative. Tasks may need to be completed under time and other pressures, but you will maintain standards and pride in your work.
We are looking for people who are able to read, write and converse in English. You will also have a basic understanding of/are willing to complete appropriate qualifications and training in:

7. COSSH procedures
8. Infection prevention and control
9. Food Hygiene Level 2
10. Relevant water systems training
11. Use of equipment such as regeneration ovens, dishwashers and floor machinery

14. Enhanced Pay for unsocial hours worked – unsocial hours are any hours worked on weekends or between the hours of 8pm and 6am. At Band 2, the enhancements are: all time on Saturday (midnight to midnight) and any week day after 8 pm and before 6 am – time plus 41% (£16.14 per hour ) or all time on Sundays and Public Holidays (midnight to midnight) – time plus 83% (£20.95 per hour ).
