Job Description TS&E Design Engineer Full Time Bristol Why Rolls-Royce? An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to join the Defence Mature Programmes team within the ET&S capability in Bristol. As the Design Engineer you shall exhibit strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and have an understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts and activities which include but are not limited to Manufacturing (including component validation activities), Aerodynamics, Combustion, Performance, Weight, Oil Systems, Thermodynamics, Stressing, Cost, Quality, In-Service Management and Product Definition (including component tolerances). What you will be doing: As the Design Engineer, you will ensure the effective resolution of complex and time-bound component design and manufacturability related issues. Design assessor signatory (depending on knowledge and skills) for Defence Concessions, Deviation Permit (DPs), Definition Alteration Requests (DARs), Technical Assessment Documents (TADs), Deviation/Deterioration report (DDRs), Repair Notes (RN), Repair Instructions (RI) and Fixed Process Approvals (FPAs). Problem solving and analytical resolution through non-conformance assessment and pro-active manufacturability improvements. Clear and concise communication and collaboration related to the status of tasks with stakeholders, Defence programmes and the globally based supply chain. Self-check design assessment for completeness and correctness prior to formal approval. Also, focus on continuous process improvements. Times to time, opportunities might arise to take ownership of the whole component design and make process, from conception to production parts, leading projects through Design Technical Assurance Gates. Liaising with a cross functional team including the Chief Engineering team (WED), Project Leads, Procurement, Supply chain and an array of analytical engineering disciplines to provide technical assurance of designs. Support the creation of detailed component definition (drawings and/or model-based definition), approve these definitions, and support manufacturing to produce conforming hardware. These activities may include the following: mechanical design, design analysis, hand calculations, tolerance stacks, presenting technical data to senior leadership and/or customers, authoring and reviewing technical reports, reviewing, and approving functional and physical interfaces, and generating analysis requirements for components and sub-systems. Bachelor's degree or higher with experience with mechanical design content - where the candidate does not hold a degree, relevant experience will be accepted Previous experience working within a design discipline Appreciation of gas turbine operation and System Design concepts are advantageous Strong communication and interpersonal skills that will allow you to integrate with all people throughout the organisation, at all levels, to ensure the effective resolution of design issues.
