Senior Sustainability Consultant - Infrastructure

The Opportunity
We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Senior Sustainability Consultant with design or construction delivery project knowledge. The role involves preparing and delivering sustainability strategies and identifying and managing the implementation of environmental and sustainability measures in projects during design, procurement, construction and/or operation stages.
The position is for a Senior Consultant to work within our Climate and Sustainability Services portfolio in London. You will promote and manage a range of projects in the areas of environmental / sustainability advice on significant design and construction projects. Activities will include guiding strategic sustainability advice including leading sustainability strategies, frameworks and appraisals, and auditing of design / construction contractors, ISO 14001, consultation with statutory authorities. The clients will include major infrastructure schemes and private developers. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary environment alongside other environmental, planning, engineering and urban design specialists.
Your remit will be to undertake and manage the production of technical work, co-ordinate with specialists and multi-disciplinary project teams, be accountable for quality and budget control, and assist with proposal preparation and marketing activities. Work as the environmental sustainability representative in project delivery teams to drive and embed aspects of sustainability into major infrastructure and planning projects. Develop comprehensive environmental and sustainability strategies and recommendations to project delivery teams and Clients. Manage and prepare environmental and sustainability deliverables, coordinating with virtual teams of topic specialists as necessary. Prepare and deliver presentations, workshops and/or training to teams and clients. Assist with managing projects including preparing and tracking budgets, resources and programmes.
Is this role right for you?
We are looking for people with the following skills –
1. Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree in a relevant field such as Sustainability, Climate Change, Environmental Engineering/Management or Geography. We would prefer qualifications which demonstrate multi-disciplinary and strategic problem solving. Other relevant qualifications will be considered.
2. Practitioner or Full Member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) or equivalent. Chartered or working towards Chartered Environmentalist. IEMA Registered Environmental Auditor would be an advantage. Qualified or desire to become a qualified BREEAM Infrastructure Project Assessor.
3. Knowledge in delivering environmental sustainability aspects of design and construction major infrastructure or master planning projects.
4. Appreciation of the principles of environmental sustainability and its relationship to the planning, design and operation of the built environment, including legislation in the UK and Environmental Impact Assessment in a planning context. Writing, editing and reviewing technical and non-technical reports relating to environment and sustainability topics.
5. Understanding of EIAs, BREEAM and LEED or similar. Awareness with PAS2080 – carbon management in infrastructure or similar.
