We are looking for a Placement Student to join our R&D Team who are responsible for all research and development activity for the organisation. This twelve-month placement is aimed at students who are doing sandwich courses with a year in industry placement. It is expected to start during July 2025.
Reporting to Lucy Georgieva, you will play an integral role within the Research and Development Team. You will be involved in projects in a variety of scientific areas.
The placement will be in our SureSeq R&D department, where you will learn next-generation sequencing techniques for product development. You will develop an understanding of the processes involved in developing products, whilst gaining experience within an R&D environment with clinical and academic scientists.
This placement will be suited to somebody who has basic molecular biology skills and is keen to learn new techniques, specifically within the cancer, genomics and next-generation sequencing field. You will gain exposure working within a growing bio-technology company with an exciting future!
Your duties will include:
* Working on a variety of molecular biology projects, including experimental design, implementation of laboratory work and contributing to the research, development and improvement of new and existing assays.
* Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments and disseminating any new information which may benefit the Company.
* Presenting progress and recommendations to the R&D team.
* Maintaining lab books, electronic records and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
* Understanding and adhering to procedures documented in the OGT quality management system, standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), COSHH and R&D related documents.
You will be:
* Currently completing or have completed your second year at University on a course with an industrial placement.
* Studying towards either BSc degree, ideally within a biological related discipline.
* A team player who is able to work well with others.
* Motivated and enthusiastic with good attention to detail.
* Organised with a methodological approach to working and able to manage your daily/weekly workload to meet strict deadlines.
