Job Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic pharmacist or pharmacy technician to lead, manage and act as a role model to all technical and support staff working in the pharmacy and all clinical pharmacists that work in the dispensary.
They will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and effective delivery of all technical and operational aspects of the pharmacy services, within national and local standards, interpreting policies and guidelines (such as Controlled Drug Regulations, SOPs) in collaboration with the Senior Pharmacy Team.
They have responsibility for the functioning of dispensary, procurement and distribution services in pharmacy.
The postholder reports directly to the Pharmacy Site Manager (FPH) and will deputise as appropriate in various meetings within the organisation.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To provide leadership to all pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants and support staff within the department.
2. To take responsibility for policy and service developments with pharmacy, under the direction of the Senior Pharmacy Team.
3. To provide clinical leadership to all pharmacy technicians/dispensary pharmacists in line with local guidelines, formulary decisions and policies relating to high cost drugs within the Trust.
4. To take responsibility for all aspects of Health and Safety within pharmacy, including dispensary, stores and pharmacy distribution areas.
5. To manage staff working within all technical and support roles within pharmacy, including recruitment, appraisal and performance.
6. To support the Responsible Person for the wholesale dealers license held at the base site.

Job Responsibilities
KEY TASKS & Responsibilities:
Dispensary
1. To lead and manage the Dispensary Manager and Education & Training Lead Technician in organising, developing and monitoring a coordinated approach to service development and appropriate documentation of all procedures.
2. To ensure day-to-day management of the dispensary teams, including managing production and maintenance of rotas, annual leave, study and sickness leave and cover arrangements for a timely and customer-focused service.
3. To ensure there is an appropriate skill mix within the dispensary team and that effective recruitment and retention processes are followed.
4. To ensure the dispensary team processes discharge prescriptions promptly, safely and efficiently to allow good patient flow through the hospital.
5. To ensure workflows are in place to process urgent inpatient medications.
6. To ensure an efficient and effective patient-focused outpatient dispensing service with prescriptions provided in the most appropriate way.
Procurement and Distribution
1. To organise, develop and monitor pharmacy purchasing and distribution within the Trust.
2. To ensure that drug alerts received from the MHRA and any defective drugs detected locally are dealt with according to national and local policy.
Operational Management
1. To be responsible for the functioning and daily operation of dispensary, procurement and distribution services in pharmacy.
2. To ensure comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures are developed, implemented and monitored for all aspects of operational and technical pharmacy services.
Clinical Duties
1. To maintain an ad-hoc clinical commitment and maintain competency of independent prescribing if applicable.
2. To provide clinical advice to clinicians, healthcare professionals and patients in the form of verbal and written communication.
Person Specification
1. GPHC Registered
2. Significant post-qualification experience > 4 years
3. Omnicell experience (or other ADC eg BD)
4. EPR system (Fully integrated eg Epic, Cerner, JAC, Ascribe)
5. Budget management
6. Purchasing experience
