Position: Internship in Human Resource Management
Compensation: $20.00 per hour, maximum of 20 hours per week.
Position Summary
The Intern, People & Culture will support APHL’s People & Culture (P&C) department in fostering a positive and engaging workplace environment. This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to assist with various initiatives in employment engagement, development, and education. The Intern will gain practical experience in HR-related projects and contribute to the department’s mission of promoting a dynamic and inclusive organizational culture.
This is a remote-friendly position that requires the employee to reside within the DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia area. Occasional in-person attendance at APHL Headquarters in Bethesda, MD is required, typically up to 4 or more times a year. Some of these on-site requirements may be requested on short notice.
Responsibilities
1. Contributes to the planning and execution of employee engagement initiatives, projects, events, and programs.
2. Assists in supporting the onboarding process for new hires, including preparation of materials and coordination of orientation activities, as well as components of the 90-day process, including tasks related to performance management and employee evaluations.
3. Supports various aspects of talent acquisition and staff education within the department.
4. Helps with the development and updating of resources and training materials.
5. Collaborates with other P&C team members to facilitate retreats for various teams and departments, including preparation and coordination of activities.
6. Collects and analyzes employee feedback and survey data as well as additional research as needed to support organizational development strategies.
7. Assists with administrative tasks such as scheduling, communication, and tracking project progress.
8. Participates in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project planning efforts.
9. Performs additional duties as needed to support the department, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree (in progress or recently completed) in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
2. Prior experience in a professional office or team-oriented environment preferred (internships or part-time roles acceptable).
3. Exposure to HR tools, survey platforms, or project management tools is an advantage.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge
1. Understanding of basic HR concepts, such as employee engagement, onboarding, and organizational culture.
2. Familiarity with survey tools, data collection methods, or employee feedback mechanisms.
Skills
1. Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear and professional interaction.
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual meeting tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
3. Experience with SharePoint for document management, collaboration, and information sharing is a plus.
4. Research and analytical skills for collecting and summarizing data.
5. Time management and organizational skills to handle multiple projects efficiently.

APHL Weeks:
APHL Week is a Conference/Convention that is held at the APHL Home Office in Bethesda, MD. This event is mandatory for all employees to attend. Travel and lodging will be reimbursed by APHL.
Please Note: Reimbursement for travel and lodging may not be possible for employees that are local to the APHL Home Office.
