Our client Scottish Power are currently recruiting for an Environmental Specialist to join their team based in Glasgow on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for a strong Environmental Specialist who has knowledge of environmental legislation and preferably a background in utilities or an operational environment background. At SP Energy Networks our focus is on creating electricity networks to help deliver Net Zero. Our team is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands within the industry – safely, securely and sustainably in the communities we serve.
The role will support the integration of environmental policy, strategy, systems and standards into operational arrangements to ensure regulatory compliance, avoidance and reduction of emissions, efficient use of resources and control of impacts to wildlife and biodiversity.
You will provide expert support within SP Energy Networks on environmental management activities through the development and implementation of environmental controls as part of the SPEN Integrated Management System. Giving assurance on SPEN’s compliance with ISO14001 and environmental legislation and supporting the business in meeting its environmental and social obligations and commitments across all activities.
What you’ll be doing
Provide specialist environmental support to enable the company to meet its Environmental commitments and obligations. This could be across many areas of environmental focus, from waste management to persistent organic pollutants to protecting wildlife.
Your knowledge and expertise will assist with the maintenance, and improvement of the environmental management system and deliver continuous improvement to both our EMS and our performance.
Within the role you will be a leading expert in SPEN on a range of environmental topics, working closely with operational management to promote leadership on environmental topics whilst advising on environmental compliance to minimise the risk of breaches.
What you’ll bring
A prior knowledge of environmental legislation with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Environmental management in an operational environment
• Environmental policy and strategy implementation
• Ecology, Waste, contaminated land, water, wastewater or energy management regulation
• Environmental risk management
• Sustainability – Carbon management
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to understand environmental requirements and then develop appropriate guidance and working methods with colleagues to deliver pragmatic solutions. Previous experience in a utility or operational environment would be advantageous.
