About the role/department This is a really exciting opportunity for the right candidate to be a part of the Outwood Academy Normanby family and join us on our journey towards excellence. The role of Teaching Assistant is an incredibly important post and vital to the success of our students who require additional support in lessons and around the academy. Our Teaching Assistants are champions for our students with additional learning needs, most of whom are on the SEND register. Support is highly individualised and is based on the needs of individual students. As a comprehensive academy, we have a wide range of needs, from Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to Moderate Learning Needs (MLD) to children who perhaps need extra help with the transition from primary school to secondary school. This is a highly varied and diverse role which will see the post holder working closely with children from a range of year groups in lessons, providing support on a 1-1 basis, in small groups and providing support to our many interventions. You’ll be supported by the wider SEND team of experienced Teaching Assistants, Intervention Leads and led by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). Outside of this direct team, you’ll also work closely with Teachers and our highly supportive Senior Leadership Team. We are strong believers that quality education starts at home. As such the post holder will be required to make regular contact with parents and carers, updating them on a variety of matters surrounding the children they support. Teaching Assistants will also be required to support and directly contribute to the educational and pastoral planning for children that they support.
