Job Title:Home Manager Salary: £40,000 £45,000 (dependant on experience) Hours:37.5 hrs per week Closing Date:18th November 2024 @ 12.00 noon About Us: Abbeyfield & Wesley Housing Association provides a range of housing for older people, including sheltered and supported sheltered housing and a residential care home. Palmerston Residential Home in Belfast is a 39-bed home registered to provide care for the frail elderly, those with dementia, physical disability and sensory impairment. Abbeyfield & Wesley wishes to appoint a dynamic and visionary person to the post of Home Manager to run the home, uphold the highest standards of care and governance and to act as dementia champion within the organisation. Responsible to:Chief Executive Location: Based in Palmerston Residential Home, Belfast with travel to other locations Key objectives: To effectively carry out all responsibilities of the Registered Manager and be responsible for all aspects of managing the home. To maintain a high-quality service which meets regulatory requirements and standards for residential care homes and registered housing associations. Ensure the best use of resources available to meet the needs of residents. Work with others within Abbeyfield & Wesley to promote the home in a positive and professional manner and encourage the involvement of residents, relatives, friends and the local community. Main Tasks: Management of Resident Care and Support Demonstrate a strong commitment to the support of older people and provide high quality person-centred care by managing the care home in a flexible and sensitive way, which addresses the individual and group needs of residents. Promote the physical, social, intellectual, emotional well-being, and independence of residents using comprehensive needs and risk assessments and developing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing individual person-centred care plans. Promote best practice within the care team. With the assistance of the Deputy Home Manager, consult residents and their families about all matters which concern them and ensure regular resident/relatives meetings are held and recorded. Encourage resident involvement and participation in the day to day running of the home. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, volunteers and visiting professionals including regulators. Support and work closely with residents families and friends offering them professional and emotional support, which is sensitive to their needs. Ensure that all Abbeyfield & Wesley policies and procedures, especially those concerned with the well-being of residents, are implemented. Promote the health and general well-being of each resident and where necessary, arrange for medical attention. Ensure the management of an effective system for the safe control and administration of medication in accordance with procedures. Maximise the occupancy of the care home and ensure that procedures relating to the admission and discharge of residents is followed. Produce a reliable assessment of residents needs and when required support residents who may need to move on if the care home is unable to meet their needs. Ensure that complete and compliant records are maintained. Management of Care Home Staff In conjunction with the HR Manager, undertake the recruitment of staff and ensure appropriate staff cover is provided in the care home at all times. Monitor the performance of the Deputy Home Managers and Senior Care Workers, identify training needs and ensure that suitable training is provided to meet identified needs. Provide management leadership, support and guidance to all staff using effective supervision and appraisal meetings to ensure that staff are able to give their best at all times. Ensure all aspects of health and safety for staff, residents and visitors are properly managed and that all regulatory requirements are met. Strategic Development and Implementation Translate strategic objectives relating to care into practical and achievable operational plans and to monitor and review progress. Develop and promote collaborative relationships within the public, private and voluntary sectors in order to develop and improve the care services provided. Keep abreast of legislative changes and developments within the sector and evaluate their impact on the activities of the association ensuring that changes are implemented where required. Contribute to the development and management of financial budgets. Promote best practice in dementia care. Provide accurate and timely reporting, information and advice to the Chief Executive and Management Board. General Requirements: To attend and establish staff meetings when appropriate and to be available for one-to-one sessions as agreed. To attend appropriate training and development sessions as agreed with the Chief Executive. To particate in the Senior Management Team meetings and strategy sessions. To maintain registration requirements with regulatory bodies, including RQIA and NISCC. Have comprehensive knowledge and proven experience of safeguarding legislation, policies, and procedures. To always maintain resident confidentiality. To be aware of and comply with safe working practices as laid down by legislation. To uphold and promote equality and diversity in all aspects of employment practice and service delivery. To travel and work evenings & weekend as required. To carry out any reasonable duties as requested. Candidate profile Essential Requirements: Educated to degree level and/or equivalent professional qualification in health/social care. Qualifications which meet the RQIA registration requirements for a Registered Manager. Minimum of two years management experience in a health and social care setting working with older people. Thorough understanding of the needs of people with dementia. Ability to lead effectively and supervise and support individuals and a team. Excellent communication skills. Ability to network effectively within the public, private and voluntary sectors. Experience of public speaking and presenting conferences. Ability to work on own initiative and manage own workload. Willingness and ability to travel. Possess a driving licence and access to a motor vehicle. Consideration will be given to alternative travelling proposals in respect of applicants who have a disability and cannot hold a driving licence. Desirable Requirements: Relevant post graduate qualification. Relevant training or assessment qualification (e.g. Manual Handling Trainer). Experience of working with volunteers. Terms & Conditions Salary will be commensurate with the level of qualifications and experience 25 days annual leave plus 11 statutory days.
