Do you have the energy and passion to drive health and safety across NWAS? NWAS are looking for a Head of Health and Safety to act as the trust's competent person for health and safety as the recognised expert for analysing levels of health and safety practices across the organisation and providing professional advice.
The Head of Health and Safety will develop, manage and monitor the annual health and safety plan which ensures demonstrating compliance with health and safety legislation for the trust in meeting its statutory and regulatory obligations. You will need to have excellent leadership skills to support both the trust and the health and safety team to move forwards to achieve their objectives.
You will play an integral role in strengthening health and safety with integrated governance, risk and assurance perspective; this will include the identification of residual risk from risk assessments and other activities to inform risk management processes, and the connection between incident management and the improvement of staff safety.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as the competent person as described under the terms of Regulation 7 of the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and is responsible for ensuring organisational compliance with statutory duties.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring the Trust has effective policies, systems and processes in place to meet the obligations and requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act and associated Regulations.
The post holder will take the lead role in the organisation for all matters of health & safety and associated underpinning legislative requirements. This includes the provision of health and safety reports and information to senior meetings internally and externally. The post holder will promote leadership and ownership of Health & Safety management throughout the organisation to ensure that risks are managed as an integral part of business delivery.
Using expert Health and Safety knowledge, the post-holder is responsible for advising managers, representatives and colleagues on any/all issues relating to health and safety at work, and for the development, delivery and co-ordination of health and safety training for colleagues.
To provide sources of assurance on Health and Safety and the wider compliance agenda for the Trust including providing data for reports and regulatory bodies.

* Advanced keyboard skills and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook & Teams).
* Requirement to travel across the North West as required.

Qualification and knowledge
* Educated to Degree level qualification or substantial health & safety knowledge and experience
* Chartered Membership of IOSH
* Experience of health and safety provision in a large and complex organisation
* Experience of managing and/or leading health and safety function within a health care setting
* Highly developed knowledge of health and safety regulations, management systems and processes (HSG65)
* Extensive and demonstrable knowledge and experience in the application of Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the associated regulations, approved codes of practice, guidance and practical implications and applications
* Evidence of significant contribution to health and safety developments
* Evidence of continual professional development
Experience
* Extensive experience in delivering service transformation and change processes
* Previous management and leadership experience in a senior position
* Experienced and able to produce high quality reports and presentations that convey complex information in a meaningful way
* Experienced in analysing complex data and information collectively from a variety of sources to triangulate and draw out themes and trends.
* Experienced in producing a range implementation plans to translate policy into practice.
* Experienced in undertaking complex investigations, surveys or audits
* Experience of effectively working within H&S governance and working with collaboratively with TU Safety representatives
* Demonstrable experience of line management responsibilities and application of HR processes
