Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Birmingham
Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent
Salary: From £90 per day
Hours: 8:20 am - 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant or Support Worker to support children at a specialist SEN school in Birmingham.
The school caters to children aged 3-11 years with a wide range of learning difficulties, including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
In addition to these learning needs, some pupils also have sensory impairments, such as visual or hearing impairments, and others may have complex medical needs.
The ideal candidate will be dedicated, patient, and able to provide support to students on a 1:1 basis or within small groups.
Some personal care duties may be required.
This position is open to individuals with experience in similar settings, and there may be the opportunity for a permanent position or contract extension based on performance.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group support to students with a range of SEN, including MLD, SLD, PMLD, ASC, and sensory needs.
- Assist with personal care where necessary.
- Support students in their learning and help them engage in activities designed to meet their individual needs.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to create a positive and supportive learning environment.
Requirements:
- At least 6 months of experience in the UK working in a similar SEN role.
- Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is preferred.
- Previous experience in a SEN setting is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
Eligibility:
- Right to work in the UK.
- Enhanced DBS certificate, registered with the online update service, or willing to apply for a new DBS.
- Two professional, child-related references covering at least the last two years.
