We are looking for a passionate and motivated individual to support the Contract Swim Manager with the swim schools across the three Council owned sites in South Kesteven, these being Grantham Meres Leisure Centre, Bourne Leisure Centre and Stamford Leisure Pool. The role will be based at, and focus primarily on Grantham Meres Leisure Centre. As the site co-ordinator you will take ownership for the Grantham swim school programme.
You’ll be a key person within LeisureSK and have a passion for aquatics, wanting to maximise the opportunities for as many members of the community, particularly children, to have the opportunity to learn to swim.
Following the guidance of the Contract Swim Manager, you’ll support the General Managers on all aspects of the swim school and school swimming programmes and help develop pathways to our network of Aquatic Clubs in the district.
As a team leader, you’ll be responsible for ensuring growth of the whole swim school programme through recruitment of new swimmers and their retention throughout the stages. You will develop the scheme in line with industry best practice and wider links to water safety campaigns where appropriate. You will support the General Managers in managing the team working with other Swim School Managers and Swimming Teachers to ensure a consistent approach across the district.
You will need to have a keen eye for performance, helping to develop KPI trackers and league tables which will be used appropriately to monitor your success.
The role will be on a part-time basis at around 25 hours per week with essential hours being Monday 14:00 to 17:30 and Saturday 08:30 to 12:00. There is some flexibility around the remaining hours, however, there will be a requirement for them to be worked in line with swim school and school swimming hours, lesson observations and assessments etc.
Role responsibilities
* To support the continuous review and development of Aquatic activities, including swim school and school swimming in order to maximise the benefit to LeisureSK and its customers.
* To monitor and review all usage and income from aquatic activities for the General Manager and to develop customer retention and service initiatives in conjunction with the Contract Swim Manager.
* To manage the Swim School and School Swimming teaching teams on a day-to-day basis with the support of the Contract Swim Manager. Including recruitment and development of all swim school team members, carrying out inductions, lesson observations and feedback, mentoring developing teachers and arranging regular training events to ensure all members of the team benefit from continued professional development.
* To assist in the development and delivery of appropriate Swim School procedures to support the growth of the programmes.
* Ensuring enquiries are converted to enrolments.
* Manage the pool layout to maximise effective use of the pool.
* Managing DD payments e.g. processing cancellations and monitoring retention in line with agreed procedures.
* To attend team meetings, provide feedback to the teaching team and deliver regular team meetings for your Swim Team.
* To be aware of local competitors in order to fully understand where LeisureSK currently sits and then to support the development of proposals for the enhancement of facilitates and the development of new programmes and activities.
* To be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the poolside teaching equipment.
* Ensure that LeisureSK’s Customer Care Policy is always carried out by delivering a quality service and assisting and helping users of the centres.
* Ensure that all statutory requirements concerning Health and Safety at Work Legislation are observed, particularly relating to the roles direct responsibility and ensure appropriate records are completed for the General Manager. In liaison with the Contract Swim Manager, produce, modify and disseminate written guidelines, rules and instructions as necessary.
* Performing other duties not specified but which may be required to facilitate the performance of the above duties.
* Promote and raise the profile of LeisureSK.
* To support swim school growth across all centres with a consistent approach.
* To help and support the development of the aquatics programme to ensure our offering is innovative, attractive and promotes growth and encourages participation.
* To co-ordinate and develop events that promote the centres to the wider community whilst maintaining an appropriate balance with regular pool users.
* To manage the school swimming programme.
Job requirements
* Experience of working within and contributing to the management of large swim school programmes.
* Extensive experience of teaching swimming lessons to children and adults within a Swim School environment.
* RLSS National Pool Lifeguard or NRASTC qualification.
* Ability to communicate effectively using the written word.
* Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers including presenting to individuals and groups of people.
* Detailed understanding of performance management.
* Proficiency in IT.
* Passion for swimming/ aquatics and a desire to encourage all of the community to learn to swim.
* Takes personal responsibility for own work and focuses on solutions and actions to ensure agreed objectives are met.
* Evidence of ability to motivate others and encourage team working.
* Evidence of the ability to deliver a customer focused service.
* Ability to develop close working relationships with clubs and other organisations.
* Positive, enthusiastic and outgoing.
